The role of our technician performs complex technical duties. Duties may include but are not limited to working in terminals, nodes, central offices, customer premise, Data Centers, Backbone Regenerator sites, Controlled Equipment Vaults (CEVs) and manholes, performing maintenance, (including preventative maintenance), site surveys, installation, test and turn-up.
May perform routine maintenance of AC / DC power plants, generators and environmental systems
Performs fiber locates, monitoring of construction activity, fiber splicing and termination
Reading and interpreting engineering plans, vendor specifications for the installation and repair of optic and electronic equipment, and interacting with and providing as-built drawings to the Engineering Group.
Performs routine and complex testing and provisioning associated with all circuits up through optical level (DS0-OCn), to support both installation and maintenance activities.
Ability to access network equipment to include both DXC's, switches, and transport equipment, and utilize remote test systems.
Utilizes knowledge of TDM, Switching, SONET, Ethernet, IP and Networking Protocols to establish device connectivity.
Utilize several remote testing systems platforms applying fault isolation techniques and standard diagnostic procedures, to isolate and resolve equipment and circuit problems.
Act as a point of contact for customers (internal and external); answer incoming phone calls, respond to escalations received from external and internal customers and document / track the related incidents to the knowledge base in our systems.
Climbing ladders, working aloft, perceiving differences in wire and cable colors, and moving / lifting items generally not exceeding 100 lbs.
Ability to work to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, non-scheduled and non-consecutive days, as the needs of the business require
