We are seeking an experienced Solutions Architect with a strong background in payment solutions to design, implement, and optimize our enterprise-wide payment systems.
As a Senior Solutions Architect - Payment Solutions, you will work with cross-functional teams to build secure payment architecture that aligns with business goals and supports digital transaction growth.
This role requires a strategic thinker and technical expert with a deep understanding of payment processing, compliance standards, and emerging payment technologies.
Key Responsibilities :
Payment Solution Architecture Design :
Architect and design end-to-end payment processing systems that are highly resilient, secure, and scalable to handle high transaction volumes.
Ensure the architecture supports multiple payment gateways, acquirers, and methods, including card payments, mobile wallets, and alternative payment solutions.
Optimize payment flows to reduce latency, increase throughput, and ensure real-time processing capabilities.
High Availability & Resilience :
Design payment solutions with a strong focus on fault tolerance, disaster recovery, and high availability (99.99% uptime).
Leverage cloud platforms to ensure elasticity and autoscaling capabilities for peak transaction loads.
Security & Compliance :
Lead the implementation of secure payment solutions that align with industry standards like PCI DSS and follow KYC / AML regulations.
Architect solutions with strong encryption standards (e.g., TLS, tokenization) and implement secure data storage and transmission practices.
Ensure that the payment architecture is protected from fraud, chargebacks, and security threats (e.g., DDoS attacks, data breaches).
Collaborate with security teams to integrate data protection measures and secure transaction practices within payment architectures.
Conduct periodic risk assessments and audits of the payment architecture, addressing vulnerabilities and ensuring data privacy.
Transaction Monitoring & Performance Optimization :
Develop architectures that include real-time monitoring, analytics, and alerting for payment transaction processing and system health.
Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams to optimize the performance of payment systems, ensuring low-latency, high-throughput processing.
Implement caching, load balancing, and asynchronous processing mechanisms to handle high volumes of transactions efficiently.
Integration & API Development :
Design APIs for seamless integration with payment processors, fraud detection systems, and third-party platforms.
Work closely with partners and third-party vendors to integrate new payment methods and services into the overall architecture.
Implement microservices-based architectures to support modularity and scalability of payment systems.
Collaboration & Leadership :
Foster collaboration with internal partners, including product managers, security teams, and developers, to ensure alignment with business and technical goals.
Lead cross-functional teams in the delivery of payment solutions, providing architectural guidance and ensuring technical excellence.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in the payment space, bringing innovative ideas and solutions to the team.
Required Skills & Qualifications :
Proven experience as a Solutions Architect specializing in payment systems and high-volume transaction processing.
Expertise in payment processing technologies, including API integration, security protocols, tokenization, and encryption standards.
Familiarity with regulatory standards like PCI DSS, EMV, and GDPR and secure payment processing practices (encryption, tokenization).
Knowledge of payment gateways (e.g., Stripe, PayPal, Adyen), digital wallets, and real-time payment networks.
Familiarity with real-time transaction monitoring systems and the use of data analytics to track payment performance and prevent fraud.
Expertise in payment processing technologies, including API integration, security protocols, tokenization, and encryption standards.
Proficient in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and microservices architecture.
Experience with microservices architectures , API development , and integration with external payment providers.
Strong knowledge of load balancing , caching , and performance optimization techniques for payment solutions.
Solid understanding of DevOps practices, including CI / CD, infrastructure as code, and automated testing.
Strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to influence and guide cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience with blockchain or cryptocurrency payment solutions .
Familiarity with emerging payment technologies such as Open Banking and Instant Payments .
Experience with machine learning for fraud detection and risk management in payment processing.
Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Architect, etc.), Enterprise Architecture (e.
g., TOGAF, Zachman), or Payment Technologies (e.g., PCIP, CTP).

The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets;
experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
A reasonable estimate of the current range is :
Pay Range : $157,000.00 - $243,400.00
