POSITION SUMMARY : The Paralegal position requires a positive, reliable team player that is able to multi-task and thrive in a supportive, but fast-paced environment.
The Paralegal will be part of a hard-working and supportive team, providing assistance to senior paralegals, managing paralegals, and attorneys.
As a key member of the organization, staff will count on you to provide consistent, quality work product which requires punctual attendance and attention to detail.
The Paralegal is the primary case manager and point of contact with current clients and is responsible for facilitating each assigned case to a successful conclusion.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree, Paralegal certification, or at least 2 years of Immigration experience within a law Firm.
- Advancement from within the Firm with paralegal assistant experience will be considered.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), professional demeanor and ability interact effectively with all levels of personnel, including management staff and support staff.
- Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly.
- Able to perform manual and electronic searches using internal and external systems.
- Computer proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work on multiple matters simultaneously in an organized manner and under minimal supervision.
- High attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to manage time effectively.
- Ability to be a proactive self-starter who understands the details within a much larger context.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) is preferred for family-based paralegal.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare agency filings for attorney review.
Revise filings and prepare copies and submissions to agencies.
Organize and maintain files and documents in paper and electronic filing systems.
Communicate with clients regarding details of cases that do not require legal advice.
Refer all legal issues and travel questions to attorneys for response to clients.
Provide clients with copies of all correspondence sent to and received from government agencies on their behalf.
Monitor deadlines and priority dates on all cases.
Prepare legal documents for filing with government agencies, including briefs and appeals along with corresponding exhibits.
Work with Senior / Managing Paralegal to carry out case to conclusion as outlined in file memo.
Maintains oversight of individual caseload to ensure timely completion of work.
Attends regular case reviews with Managing Paralegal and Supervising Attorney(s) coming prepared with an organized case report and up-to-date knowledge of all active assigned case matters.
Monitors updates in law, policy, and procedure as indicated by supervising attorneys and managing paralegal, and able to implement such changes into current caseload.
Maintain up to date records in all case management software for all cases including case steps, deadlines, priority dates and receipt notices.
Dockets and monitors all deadlines on all assigned client files in accordance with the Firm’s docketing policy.
Enter all billable, non-billable and admin time in a timely manner.
Create and maintain case reports as needed, including sending semi-weekly case reports to appropriate supervisor and preparing case reports for case reviews.
Attend professional development conferences at the request of the Firm.
Fully embraces the Firm’s culture and consistently applies the Firm’s vision to internal and external relationships.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature; Able to lift, carry pull, or move objects up to 30lbs in weight.
Substantial movements (motion) of the wrist, hands, and / or fingers in a repetitive manner.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Well-lighted, heated and / or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation; Moderate noise (examples : copiers, computers and printers, etc.
Must be able to work outside of standard business hours when required.
