Job Summary :

We are seeking experienced and passionate Social Studies tutors to provide in-person tutoring for students ranging from elementary school to college in the Houston, TX area.

As a SiSTEM tutor, you will provide personalized, high-quality instruction to students, fostering their academic growth and understanding in various social studies disciplines.

Job Responsibilities :

• Provide in-person tutoring sessions in Social Studies subjects to students from elementary through college level, in which you will create and customize lesson plans to meet each student's specific learning needs and academic goals.
• Prepare students for exams, assignments, and standardized tests
• Track student progress and regularly communicate with parents or guardians (for K-12 students)
• Maintain a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages growth
• Align sessions with academic curricula and educational standards

MUST BE eligible to work in the United States of America and have a valid Social Security Number; (Note : We do not sponsor visas at this time).

MUST BE Committed to tutoring for the duration of the assignment with a possibility of extension.

MUST Be able to pass a background check.

Great interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt and relate to students from diverse backgrounds.

MUST HAVE your own computer and be technologically savvy (email, texting, Slack, Google Sheets / Excel).

MUST HAVE a selfless commitment to making a difference in students' lives (we work with migrant students and you must have compassion for all students regardless).

Must be willing to travel to various areas around Houston, Texas, and meet possibly in a public area (library, coffee shop, daycare, etc.) to tutor in person.

Qualifications and Skills :

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Be eligible to work in the United States of America and have the documentation to prove it.

Have your own computer and be technologically savvy (email, texting, Slack, Google Sheets / Excel).

Reliable transportation for travel to various in-person tutoring locations within Houston.

Proven experience tutoring or teaching Social Studies across various academic levels.

Requirements

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERTISE :

A college student with at least 60 hours of credit hours

A college graduate (Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral degree holder)

A certified teacher with SBEC or other teacher state licensure certification

A retired teacher with SBEC or other teacher state licensure certification

Skilled in English (All grade levels are welcome to apply)

This position is a CONTRACT job. Contract Tutor will receive W-9 and must file / pay their own taxes.
