Job Description
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an experienced engineer to join the Knolls Materials Characterization Laboratory (MCL) team.
If you have hands-on testing experience this position is a great opportunity to expand your expertise!
In this role you will be :
- Performing advanced digital imaging and image analysis
- Performing Vickers, Knoop and Rockwell hardness testing
- Provide engineering and operational support for the microscopy, thermal properties and metallography laboratories
- Performing data collection and analysis, and detailed report generation.
- Supporting design, operation, modification, maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and data acquisition and control systems.
- Communicating with external vendors to resolve issues will be required.
- Preparing work instructions and procedures.
- Understanding and applying environmental, safety, and health laboratory practices with a primary focus on safety, and inspection / monitoring.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience;
- or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience;
or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE / ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.
Preferred Skills
- Demonstrated hands-on laboratory or industrial environment experience
- Work experience using test equipment and data acquisition or electronic control software
- Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation of test reports

Pay Range
$83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities : Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A.
Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston.
