The position of Instructional Coach is non-supervisory. The role of the instructional coach is separate and apart from the evaluative role of the principal / supervisor of the teacher.
The instructional coach advocates for, facilitates, and supports the work of the teacher, but never performs supervision or evaluation.
The role of evaluator is the sole responsibility of the principal / supervisor.
Qualifications :
1. The individual must possess a teacher certification and an advanced degree in a specific content area, curriculum and instruction, administration or related field.
2 The individual must have five (5) years of experience, including successful teaching experience.
3. The individual must have knowledge of instructional practices
and instructional delivery models that actively engage students.
4. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of standards based, data-driven decision making and data teams.
5. The individual must demonstrate knowledge and leadership in the development and implementation of district and building instructional goals.
Essential Functions :
o Documents evidence in improving student achievement in classrooms.
o Demonstrates and uses knowledge of the Course Level Expectations (CLEs) in standards-based teaching.
o Assists teachers in using Hazelwood School District common syllabi, lesson protocols, material lists, and pacing guides.
o Works in classrooms with teachers (modeling, co-teaching and observing).
o Demonstrates knowledge and use of various instructional delivery models and instructional strategies that improve student engagement and performance.
o Demonstrates skill in data-driven decision making and data teams.
o Leads the analysis and use of student achievement data in data teams to positively change instruction.
o Helps teachers use data from common assessments, student work, and standardized assessments to plan instruction.
o Uses walkthroughs to monitor standards-based teaching and the application of professional development.
o Acquires the knowledge, leadership skills, technology skills and instructional strategies necessary to effectively impact instructional practice in classrooms.
o Exhibits interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate coaching and professional development.
o Displays the ability to design, present and monitor high quality professional development.
o Displays knowledge of and commitment to equity in all work.
o Participates in all required instructional coach professional development, including Hazelwood’s Annual Data and Assessment Committee Meeting and instructional coach meetings.
o Gains knowledge about current and past educational research relevant to the coaching role.
o Develops and monitors teacher growth plans.
o Facilitates school-based high quality professional development, working with teachers (in groups and individually) to refine their knowledge and skills.
Professional development could include, but not be limited to, in-class coaching, observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teachers in looking at student work, developing lesson plans with teachers based on student needs, supporting data analysis, supporting the integration of technology, co-planning with teachers, and facilitating teacher study groups.
o Monitors instructional effectiveness and student progress.
o Other duties as assigned based on student, teacher, school or District need.
Terms of Employment :
Terms of the teacher contract including appropriate placement on the regular teacher salary
schedule will apply. The extra-duty contract associated with this position requires an additional 20
days and extended hours beyond the regular contract day. Work calendars and schedules will be
developed by the District. The extra-duty contract will be offered annually, for a period of one year,
in the amount of $10,000.
