Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, admission to the Massachusetts Bar, and at least three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in the practice of law.
  • The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve, including historically marginalized communities, and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment.
  • Strong background in all aspects of civil litigation, including complex litigation and e-discovery, and experience managing a large and varied caseload.
  • Ability to perform the required work under deadlines.
  • Strong writing skills, including experience drafting motions and pleadings.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • At least five years' relevant civil litigation experience.
  • Seeking individuals who are highly motivated and who want to work in a fast-paced, high-volume, public-sector law office.
  • The successful candidate should have legal experience and / or interest in protecting the rights of vulnerable populations;

civil enforcement of labor standards or other rights; and research, writing, and analytical skills.

  • We seek an individual who possesses strong organizational skills and exercises good judgment.

Responsibilities

  • The Fair Labor Division (FLD) investigates and enforces the Massachusetts wage and hour and other laws governing fair labor standards and public construction bidding laws under Chapters 149 and 151 of the Massachusetts General Laws and related regulations.
  • Assistant Attorneys General are responsible for the enforcement of Massachusetts labor standards, including statutes that address non-payment of wages, overtime, minimum wage, child labor, public construction, prevailing wages, labor trafficking, and diverse related statutes.
  • Assistant Attorneys General prosecute violations in criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings, as well as make public presentations to employers and employees concerning the wage and hour laws.
  • Maintains an active caseload, including assuming responsibility for drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, taking and defending depositions, preparing and arguing dispositive motions, and trying cases in the superior and federal courts.

Benefits

  • Salary : $2,995.68 to $4,328.79 bi-weekly, based on qualifications.
  • Estimated Salary : $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
