General Definition of Work
The senior data analyst, under general supervision, performs professional level work related to the planning, development, and implementation of data dashboards and analytic reports.
Supports the district's initiatives and programs using data analytics in conjunction with research, evaluation, and strategic planning to inform district decision-makers about the effectiveness of initiatives.
Employee performs advanced work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures related to student outcomes focused governance.

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Develop and build sophisticated data analytics models to identify key insights and actionable policy recommendations for district leadership
- Build and maintain data dashboards and reports on key metrics that align with the district's strategic goals and priorities
- Develop, build, and maintain data dashboards in PowerBI
- Build, clean, and compile data using data analysis tools such as SQL and Excel
- Create ad-hoc data analysis reports
- Collaborate with CMS senior staff and educators to identify data analysis and visualization priorities
- Query, collect, review, and analyze data for district leadership and staff
- Collaborate with colleagues to support data quality control and governance activities to ensure all data is accurate, complete, and follows established processes and protocols
- Analyze and report on data from outside entities including the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), the College Board, and ACT
- Contribute to and serve on various cross-functional teams
- Support the selection and monitoring of various school and district performance measures to foster continuous improvement
- Assist the research and evaluation team in developing systems and processes for collecting, organizing, and managing student- and school-level data for research and program evaluation
- Utilize descriptive and inferential statistics to summarize and analyze data
- Consult on and provide feedback on the analytic work of other departments
- Support the reporting of several district-wide surveys
- Remain current in the field of data visualization and analytics
- Perform related work as assigned or required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Comprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system policies and data use
- Knowledge of data analytics and visualization best practices
- Knowledge of policies and procedures around data governance
- Knowledge of quantitative research methods and statistical methodologies such as descriptive and inferential statistics
- Skilled in data visualization tools including PowerBI and Tableau
- Skilled in compiling, manipulating, and analyzing data using SQL
- Skilled in statistical and graphical software such as SAS, Stata, SPSS, and Excel
- Skilled in integrating and preparing large, varied datasets from internal and external sources for analysis and visualization
- Skilled in logical thinking, problem-solving, and developing innovative solutions
- Ability to analyze and interpret data
- Ability to turn data into actionable insights that support decision-making
- Ability to work interdepartmentally to determine priorities, define metrics, and share data through dashboards and reports
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects independently and simultaneously and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to document and maintain complete and accurate records
- Ability to self-start with little direction, take initiative, and display persistence

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field that emphasizes Data Analytics required
- At least three (3) years of experience in data analytics required
- Experience in data analytics in an educational setting preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience

- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation
