The Endoscopy Department at BJWCH consists of preop, procedure and recovery areas.

Nurses will assist in preparing and recovering patients for their procedures in collaboration with the physicians and anesthesia providers. Skills needed for this role include monitoring vital signs, airway and pain management and the ability to recognize the need for escalation. Additionally, education of patients pre and post procedure is vital to our patient safety and experience.

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital

offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.

The Endoscopy department at Barnes Jewish West County Hospital is a highly specialized, full-service department meeting the needs of inpatient and outpatient clients. The lab specializes in Upper Endoscopy (EGD), Esophagoscopy, Colonoscopy, Flexible sigmoidoscopy, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), ERCP, Bronchoscopy, EBUS, Small bowel enteroscopy (SBE), and Video capsule endoscopy. The endoscopy staff consists of a NP, RN¿s and technicians who are overseen by an Endoscopy Supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose\nProvides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities\nPromotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment.

Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.\nParticipates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.

Participates in professional development.\nDevelops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care.

Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.\nUses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.\nBJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position.
