Company Overview : Our client, a leading provider of waste and recycling services, is seeking a highly skilled Controller to oversee all financial and accounting operations.

The Controller will play a critical role in financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and financial strategy, ensuring the company’s financial health and efficiency.

Job Summary : The Controller will be responsible for managing the company’s financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining internal controls.

This position requires a strategic thinker who can collaborate with senior leadership to drive financial performance, meet regulatory requirements, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

Key Responsibilities :

Financial Management :

  • Oversee and manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and taxes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements.
  • Monitor cash flow, manage cash forecasting, and ensure liquidity for company operations.

Budgeting & Forecasting :

  • Lead the development of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial planning.
  • Work with department heads to create accurate and achievable budgets.
  • Track and analyze budget variances, providing recommendations for corrective actions.

Internal Controls & Compliance :

  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare for and manage external audits, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.

Financial Strategy :

  • Assist in the development of long-term financial strategies and key performance metrics to drive business growth and profitability.
  • Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership for strategic decision-making.

Team Leadership :

  • Manage and mentor the finance and accounting team, ensuring a high standard of performance and professional development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration within the department.

Qualifications : Education :

Education :

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or MBA preferred.

Experience :

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting, financial management, or a similar role.
  • Prior experience in the waste management, recycling, or related industry is preferred but not required.

Skills :

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

Physical Requirements :

Ability to work in an office environment, with occasional travel to other company locations.
