Responsibilities Work in an acute care hospital on a combined Med / Tele / PCU stepdown unit Unit has 32 beds and provides care to adult and geriatric patients Patient population includes cardiac cath, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, COVID on Bipap, general surgical with cardiac history, pneumonia, sepsis, and acute on chronic conditions Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1 : 4-5, occasionally 5-6 on nights, and 1 : 3 for PCU overflow patients RNs are required to titrate drips including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine RT equipment such as Bipap and trachs are present on the unit Tele monitors are both portable and in-room, supported by a monitor tech at the nurses station RNs read and interpret their own strips Uses Epic EMR; Epic experience preferred Night shifts, 12 hours in length, with every other weekend and holiday required First to float to similar units, with floating as helping hands to all areas including MS and ER holds / boarding RNs are responsible for caring for a broad range of medical and cardiac patients, including those requiring advanced monitoring and titratable drips Charge nurses are present on both shifts and may have a light patient load Patient care techs support the unit with a goal ratio of 1 : 10 Unit orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts on Friday and Saturday of the first week Any color scrubs are permitted First time travelers are welcome to apply Holiday and every other weekend coverage is required A maximum of 7 days of requested time off (RTO) per 13-week contract must be disclosed up front; no additional RTO will be approved Requirements Active ND or compact state RN license at time of application—pending licenses not accepted Minimum 2 years of recent Med / Tele / PCU RN experience required Current ACLS and BLS certifications required Proficiency in reading and interpreting telemetry strips and titrating cardiac drips required References required : one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years, both with employment dates and rehire eligibility Driver's license must be provided for consideration Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility No previous direct employment (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-623442.
