About the team + role

Robinhood’s legal team is looking for an attorney to provide day-to-day legal advice on supporting enterprise level employment policies, training, investigations, and risk assessments including validating, prioritizing risks, and deploying legal and compliance risk-based solutions in the U.

S. and abroad. We are looking for a highly adaptable and collaborative person who can handle ambiguity and rapidly shifting priorities with flexibility and patience.

What you'll do

  • Serve as a consultant and advisor to the People Team and Compliance teams by providing ethics and employment law advice and strategy with respect to multiple company locations in the US and abroad.
  • Partner with leaders across the company on a broad range of business and legal projects including benefits, compensation, immigration, recruiting, tax, ethics and compliance, diversity and inclusion and incident responses.
  • Develop and / or review policies, standards and business procedures crafted to foster compliance with various state, federal and international employment laws and regulations.
  • Educate and advise management, technical and business partners on ethics and employment issues and risks; develop content and / or review company trainings.
  • Support HR Compliance initiatives.
  • Advise on crucial conversations including investigations, data analytics and advice re : individual and enterprise-wide remediation, employee terminations, business reorganizations, Handle in-house investigations, attorney demand letters, and employee charges pending before federal and state agencies.
  • Assist or lead in handling all phases of employment litigation and pre-litigation employment disputes; hands-on role in coordinating and advising case strategy, including discovery, drafting and editing briefs, interviewing and preparing witnesses and negotiations with third parties.
  • Structure and draft separation agreements, new hire onboarding, and other related employment agreements.

What you bring

  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least 1 U.S. state bar.
  • 8+ years of legal practice experience, with at least 3 years specializing in employment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-resolution skills; outstanding business judgment, strategic and give practical advice by balancing business needs with legal risks.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with, and gain the trust and respect of partners at all levels and functions of the company.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely explain legal requirements and risk to an audience of non-legal cross-functional partners.
  • Flexible communication style that is adaptable depending on the audience.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity, balance many matters at once and quickly shift from one situation or task to another.
  • Ability to work under pressure with a sense of humor.

Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands.

The expected salary range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed and is aligned to one of 3 compensation zones.

This role is also eligible to participate in a Robinhood bonus plan and Robinhood’s equity plan. For other locations not listed, compensation can be discussed with your recruiter during the interview process.

Zone 1 (Menlo Park, CA; New York, NY; Seattle, WA; Washington, DC) : $202,000 $238,000 USD.

Zone 2 (Denver, CO; Westlake, TX; Chicago, IL) : $178,000 $209,000 USD.

Zone 3 (Lake Mary, FL) : $158,000 $186,000 USD.
