What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $128,566 - $218,545 / year.
Our starting salary range is $150,000 to $185,000 / year, based on experience and education. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to :
- A guaranteed life-long monthly pension, once vested after 5 years of service
- 457B Retirement Plan
- 140 hours of PTO earned within first year + 11 paid holidays, 1 personal holiday and 1 volunteer day per year

Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed.
Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.
In this position you can expect to work on site at Denver Post Building- 101 W. Colfax Ave., at least three to five days / week.

We are seeking a Chief of Staff to serve as DEDO’s executive strategic partner. The Chief of Staff will provide direct support to the Executive Director through managing day-to-day operations of the agency, identifying, setting and monitoring strategic priorities, managing DEDO’s executive leadership team, advancing the Executive Director’s priorities and vision, and driving overall marketing, communications, and government affairs efforts across the division.
The position will act as an influential sounding board and thought partner providing useful insights and analysis on policy and investment decisions that impact DEDO initiatives and investments.
This role will work with the Executive team to set metrics for success, evaluate progress and ongoing needs, and monitor City of Denver policy, investment, economics, and overall health to make informed decisions of DEDO’s strategic direction.
Specifically, as the Chief of Staff, you will be responsible for the following :
- Work closely with the Executive Director and maintain constant communication to ensure proper management of the day-to-day operations of the organization.
- Assist Executive Director to identify priorities, strategically align resources, and provide periodic updates. Help identify and execute new operational strategies.
- Project manage a variety of high-priority projects for the Executive Director , driving towards goals, ensuring timely completion of deliverables, and troubleshooting issues.
- Set strategic priorities across the portfolio, supporting external inquiries, and mitigate political and operational challenges.
- Support the executive team . Meets with executive leaders regularly and ensures synergy and alignment across divisions.
Manages executive team meetings and retreats.
- Assist and communicate with executives in decision-making, program management, and initiative implementation.
- Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and understand the agency / divisional budgets to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Demonstrate leadership to maintain credibility, trust and support with senior management and staff.
- Responsible for advising the Executive Director on matters of a sensitive or policy-making nature.
- Oversee Marketing, Communications, Executive Support and Government Affairs teams and initiatives.
- In coordination with the Executive Director’s Executive Assistant, manage external stakeholder meetings and events to ensure appropriate meeting preparation, clear meeting objectives and deliverables are set and action items are tracked and monitored
- Lead the Data Analytics and Strategy & Policy teams to drive operational efficiency and ensure DEDO values and strategic plan align with the City and the Community.
- Create and maintain cross-divisional relationships with employees for increased efficiency and effective responsiveness into existing operations.
- Serve as an extension of the Executive Director , ensuring information flow and involvement / decision making at the appropriate times.
- Serve as a DEDO subject matter expert , handling inquiries and developing action plans to address them
- Bring together multiple stakeholders to help drive decisions.
- Collaborate with Mayor’s Office , city agencies, and external partners on related programs.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics :
- A proven record of initiating and managing complex, interdisciplinary projects involving multiple stakeholders.
- Extensive experience in mediating among groups with competing perspectives and priorities.
- Significant experience working in or with municipal or other government agencies.
- Political savvy with a local Denver presence.
- Experience working in a business development setting, from small and minority business support to global business execution and attraction.
- Excellent communication, writing, research, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, time-management and multi-tasking skills.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Education Requirement Bachelor's Degree in a related field based on a specific position(s).
- Experience Requirement Five (5) years of leadership experience, which must have included management of director level leaders.
Two (2) years of management experience must include budget and fiscal oversight responsibility, evaluation of business processes, and policy and decision making experience with planning and organizing multiple programs, projects, operations or functions.
Education & Experience Equivalency Two (2) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post high school education.
