Primary Purpose
To maintain a record system of Emergent Bilingual students; keep data information in such a manner that records can easily be located regarding Emergent Bilingual student testing, placement and monitoring.
Assist teachers in providing instruction to Emergent Bilingual students in the classroom.
Qualifications :
Education / Certification :
- High school diploma or GED
- Qualify for appropriate state paraprofessional certification
Special Knowledge / Skills :
- Ability to assist in instructing, supporting and monitoring reading, writing, and mathematics to groups of Emergent Bilingual students and Newcomers
- Interest and proficiency in reading and math
- Demonstrate an interest in education

Major Responsibilities and Duties :
Program Management
- Assist in carrying out the district’s goal of improving student achievement by providing assistance to students who are at-risk of academic failure or dropping out of school and / or staff who work with these students.
- Assist teachers in providing instruction to students in the classroom.
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date files related to testing, placement and monitoring Emergent Bilingual students (LPAC notebook).
- Enter Emergent Bilingual input of student records to computer and reporting and makes corrections to the student’s Emergent Bilingual data file.
- Prepare agendas for each monthly meeting of the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee.
- Administer and score oral language proficiency tests and achievement test.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
