JobResponsibilities and Requirements :
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Uses standards ofmedical-surgical nursing practice to increase the quality of careand quality of life for the patient, family, and significantother(s) by systematically evaluating the quality and effectivenessof nursing practice.
- Establishes effectiverelationships and serves as an advocate with the patient, family,and significant other(s) to facilitate the development of the careplan unique to the patient's care needs.
- Usesthe nursing process to develop and implement the plan of care,collect assessment data for each patient, determine appropriatenursing diagnoses, identify expected patient outcomes, determinethe plan of care, implement interventions, and evaluate patientoutcomes.
- Develops assessment and managementstrategies based on a consideration of the physical, functional,cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational,and leisure dimensions of human responses to actual and potentialhealth problems.
- Demonstrates knowledge of theimpact of actual or potential illness and each patient's physical,functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual,vocational, and leisure status.
- Utilizesleadership skills by coordinating and collaborating with thepatient, family, significant other(s), communities, and members ofthe inter-professional team in assessing needs, setting goals,planning interventions, providing care, and evaluatingoutcomes.
- Utilizes effective communication toparticipate with the patient, family, significant other(s), andother health care providers in collaborative decision making thatreflects the understanding that care should be culturallysensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate, andhumane, and within the boundaries of available economicresources.
- Educates the patient, family, andsignificant other(s) about measures that promote, maintain, andrestore health or promote comfort.
- Fosters ahealthy work environment within the practice setting and professionby serving as a mentor and role model for nursing colleagues,students, and others.
- Applies the existing bodyof evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health careto medical-surgical nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care isdelivered based on patient's age-specific needs and clinical needsas described in the department's Scope ofService.
- Works in a constant state of alertnessand safe manner.
- May perform point of caretesting according to policies andprocedures.

EDUCATION
Graduate of accredited school ofnursing or education equivalency forlicensing

- Constant use of speech to shareinformation through oralcommunication.
- Constant standing andwalking.
- Frequent lifting / carrying andpushing / pulling objects weighing 0-25lbs.
- Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboarduse / data entry.
- Frequent use of vision anddepth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20feet or more) and to identify and distinguishcolors.
- Frequent use of smell todetect / recognize odors.
- Frequent use of hearingto receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and / or hearalarms, malfunctioning machinery,etc.
- Occasional lifting / carrying andpushing / pulling objects weighing 25-50lbs.
- Occasional lifting / moving ofpatients.
- Occasional bending, stooping,kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot / leg andhand / arm movements.
- Occasionaldriving.
- Rare crawling andrunning.
