PODS Pipeline Data Analyst
Responsible for creating and maintaining the data within the Company Pipeline Open Data Standard Esri Geodatabase. The accuracy and integrity of the PODS geodatabase is upheld via adding new data, maintaining existing data, running daily quality checks, following PODS business process workflows, and working from the PODS procedures and technical guides.
This role may work directly with, but not limited to, the following groups within Company : Compliance Systems, Risk Engineering, Drafting, Codes and Standards, ILI Integrity, Construction Project Management, and Field Operations.
The PODS Pipeline Data Management Analyst responsibilities include, but not limited to, of the following :
- AsBuilt pipelines from new construction and maintenance field activities.
- Utilize data maintenance applications to review, edit and approve data within a versioned ESRI geodatabase.
- Work from multiple electronic and hard copy engineering, field survey, inspection, and other approved source documents.
Source document types may be, but are not limited to : Field Reports, Alignment Sheets, Detail Drawings, Survey Data, Weld Map, Pressure Test Reports, Material Purchasing and Mill Test Records, and ILI Feature Listings.
- Check all data for location accuracy, attribute completeness and accuracy, and compliance as outlined in the PODS processes and technical procedures.
- Run all PODS data quality checks prior to loading working data records into the production database, per PODS standard workflow.
- Support data requests for internal and external customers as requested.
- Participate in improving PODS working procedures and technical guides with other team members.
- Provide PODS training as requested for other PODS and non-company PODS analysts.
Position may be filled at various levels depending on experience and job skills of the successful candidate.
Position Requirements
Qualified individual will need to have at least four (4) years of experience performing pipeline as-built work, either in CAD as a draftsperson or in GIS pipeline data models, such as PODS Spatial, PODS Relational, ISAT or APDM.
Although a bachelor’s level degree is preferred, would consider an associate degree or qualifying experience.
Education :
- Bachelor level degree in GIS, Engineering or related field of study is preferred.
- Associate degree or equivalent experience using ArcGIS Software to maintain pipeline databases may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
Skills / Qualifications :
- Must be able to interpret detail drawings and alignment maps, to reference location, and extract dimension and reference material information for validation with other documents.
- Must be able to interpret hydrostatic pressure test reports and corresponding location documents.
- Must have a fundamental knowledge of pipeline system components and design / construction.
- Desired, but not required, a fundamental knowledge of the construction and operation of liquid pipelines and a working knowledge of 49 CFR Part 192.
- Must have strong analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify and resolve (1) conflicting pipeline source documentation information and (2) GIS and database management issues / problems.
- Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and independent researching capabilities in all aspects of work.
- Experience working with PODS Spatial, PODS Relational, ISAT, APDM or other types of pipeline data models.
- Proficient in Esri ArcGIS software at a minimum, preferred to have a strong domain experience working with Esri ArcGIS software and enterprise GIS.
- Must have clear understanding of pipeline linear referencing, engineering stationing / measures, equations, reversals and how pipeline integrity software handles referential integrity for operational and regulatory purposes.
- Able to work within a team, network and build relationships, take direction from supervisor or other team leads, work within firm deadlines, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details and follow all work rules.
- Ability to be productive with minimal supervision, strong organizational skills to prioritize daily work to meet schedules, objectives, and provide routine status updates.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with all levels of management as well as employees in corporate and field offices.
- The individual must be self-motivated and willing to learn new and changing technologies.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Experience using AutoCAD is desirable, but not a requirement.
- Ability to write SQL queries is desirable, but not a requirement.
- Position may be hired in as a GIS Associate, GIS Coordinator or Sr. GIS Coordinator, depending upon the successful candidate’s qualifications, skill sets and experience.
- The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
