2-3 sentences describing job purpose) : A school librarian provides five essential interconnected school library roles : leader, instructional partner, information specialist, teacher, and program administrator.

A school librarian works with both students and teachers to facilitate access to information in a wide variety of formats, instructs students and teachers how to acquire, evaluate and use information and the technology needed in this process, and introduces children and young adults to literature and other resources to broaden their horizons.

As a collaborator, change agent, and leader, the school librarian develops, promotes and implements a program that will help prepare students to be effective users of ideas and information, a lifelong skill (AASL).

Education and Experience Requirements

Education (training / degree) : Required minimum : Requires education or training equivalent to a Bachelor s degree in Library Science.

Preferred : Master’s in Library Science.

Experience Requirements : Previous experience in an educational or related setting is preferred but is not required. Training and certification as a media specialist is required.

More specific degree, certification, and experience requirements will be included in the position announcement as vacancies occur.

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations Required : Requires a valid Tennessee teaching license, with Library Information Specialist preK-12 (473) endorsement, preferred.

Level 1 : May use addition and subtraction in documenting student progress, making change, etc.

Level 6 : Reads journals and manuals; composes specialized reports / analysis; speaks to large groups of coworkers and people outside the organization.

Complexity of Work :

Level 3 : Performs semi-routine work involving set procedures and rules, but with frequent problems; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure.

Level 3 : Makes decisions with moderate impact - affects those in work unit.

Kronos Set Up Data :

Meal Deduction Most Bransford office and district level employee have a meal deduction. They are scheduled 8.5 hours per day and get an hour lunch.

Itinerants and retirees get a 30 minute lunch period and therefore do not have a meal deduction. All school based employees will not have a meal deduction. No Meal Deduction

Travel Itinerant non-exempt employees who travel will be using the time clock differently than others and are paid for travel time between work locations.
