Come join us in a key leadership role revolutionizing Nordstrom’s data landscape! We are transforming a set of batch-centric data marts into a cutting-edge analytics platform that collects, transforms, stores, and serves critical data and insights across all facets of Nordstrom’s business.
Our new Nordstrom Analytics Platform (NAP) provides a wide range of data services, from raw source event data through to highly-processed insights and machine learning (ML) models.
NAP is an event-first, streaming, and near-real-time data substrate. We serve the data needs of many types of users, including data scientists, analysts, engineers, and business leaders - regardless of use case, our customers depend on us for high quality, timely, and trusted data.
At Nordstrom we believe the role of a leader is to support the needs of their team. In this role, you would be supporting a large team of engineers, data engineers and data analysts, including your own leadership team of senior engineering managers and engineering managers.
As a Director of NAP, you will be at the heart of data, analytics, and ML for the entire company. You will raise the technology bar for your team, helping them to deliver their best work.
You will also help the managers on your team grow, identifying teachable moments, training and work that supports their career goals.
A day in the life
- Crafts NAP vision and strategies to support company objectives and goal
- Creates mechanisms for the managers on their team to have clarity, autonomy, and support in execution
- Drives organizational structure and talent management plans to meet needs of their organization
- Identifies and develops leaders
- Has ownership and accountability over creating and evolving systems related to people, process, and technology
- Drives architectural decisions shaping the data platform undergirding all of Nordstrom’s business, creating scalable, reliable, and cost-effective engineering solutions
- Drives and influences the technology strategy and roadmap for NAP, collaborating with product groups and partner teams to deliver value to our customers
- Develops and fosters a healthy and collaborative culture for your team that embodies both industry best practices and Nordstrom values
- Influences, coaches, and mentors as a matter of course, in all interactions with their team
- Hires capable and motivated talent / teams that can deliver swiftly and predictably, adjusting in an agile fashion to deliver solutions aligned with business needs
You own this if you have
- 10+ years of relevant work experience in software development
- 5+ years of experience in enterprise team leadership in dynamic, high-scale environments
- 2+ years managing managers
- A proven track record of individual excellence and a demonstrated commitment to making others great. You are intimately familiar with modern software development practices but lean on collaboration in addition to processes to drive outcomes.
- Strong customer and stakeholder empathy. You must be not only the voice of the customer. You must be able to channel many points of view, synthesize them and drive alignment even in times of friction and disagreement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, with a master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
- Strong negotiating and influencing skills
- Strong leadership and team management skills

Pay Range Details
The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.
Washington : $182,000-$300,500 annually. This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives / bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical / vision / dental / life / disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more.
