Bayhealth's Residency Program helps bridge the gap between nursing school and meeting the challenges of working in an acute care setting.
The program encompasses not only the orientation on the unit, but monthly classes devoted to learn, skill development and role adjustment.
The Residency Program is based on guidelines established by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Practice Transition Accreditation Program.

Three A (3A) is an Acuity Adaptable floor located at our Bayhealth Kent Campus in Dover. The unit is a 20 bed unit that cares for a variety of medically complex conditions including stroke, stroke like symptoms, telemetry, cardiac drips, continuous bipap and more.
3A is a certified stroke unit and staff on this floor are required to become NIHSS certified. The current nurse (RN / LPN) to patient ratio is 5 : 1.
3A participates in the Nurse Residency Program and is a great place for new or experienced nurses.
The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within a assigned unit with a commitment to quality and safety.
Professional nursing practices, requiring specialized knowledge judgment and skill are performed using the process in accordance with hospital policy, procedures and nursing philosophy.
Responsibilities :
1. Provide direct, professional nursing care to specified population of patients in the acute care setting.
2. Develops a patient centered plan of care based on individualized needs.
3. Maintains confidentiality of the patient medical record.
4. Counsel and educate patients and their care partner on treatment plans.
5. Administer medication following the five rights of medication administration.
6. Provide wound care and dressing changes, as applicable.
7. Read and interpret patient information, making treatment decisions, when appropriate.
8. Consult with physicians to decide on best treatment decisions when appropriate
9. Performs nursing interventions to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
10. Observe and record patient behavior and response to nursing interventions.
11. Demonstrates quality, safe and effective patient care.
12. Provides delegation to unlicensed assistive staff and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) staff
13. Demonstrates standards of excellence which includes practicing nursing with core values of compassion, accountability, respect, teamwork and integrity.
14. Demonstrates understanding and executes quality and performance improvement plans. (only for RN evaluation)
15. Participates in decision making and takes actions based on ethical principles. (only for RN evaluation)
16. Provides timely and accurate documentation of patient care.
17. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience :
Education : Bachelor Degree
Nursing Diploma
Nursing - Within 36 months of hire, if not already obtained
Nursing
Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program / university
Credential(s) : Registered Nurse
Basic Life Support
ACLS / PALS may be required per manager's direction and timeframe *Commit to seeking specialty certification within time frame as indicated during interview
Experience : Required : Preferred : Experience in relevant specialty.
