- 16-week training program, 40 hours per week, every 3rd weekend

and register prior to the start date.

The Pharmacy Technician-in-Training works under the functional supervision of a Lead Technician and Pharmacist to provide services to Pharmacy customers.
The Pharmacy Technician-in-Training supports the Pharmacist in providing Pharmaceutical Care. The main areas of responsibility include one or more of the following Medication Distribution, Sterile / Non-sterile Product Preparation, Inventory Control, Secretarial, and Control Drug Management.
- Liaison between Pharmacy Department, Nursing Units, and other hospital departments; delivering medications, intravenous solutions, supplies, and devices
- Prepares medications for dispensing
- Processes charges, credits, and returns for medications, supplies, and devices
- Restocks, organizes, and inventories medications and supplies throughout the hospital; checks for expired medications throughout the hospital;
orders needed medications and supplies; and checks ordered items as they are received to assure correctness of product, quantity, and quality
- Accurately and aseptically prepares sterile drug products (including chemotherapy) in accordance with USP
- Accurately prepares non-sterile drug products in accordance with USP
- Prepares medications with bar codes and unit-dose packaging
- Manages the planning, scheduling, requisition, purchasing, receiving, storing, and cost accounting of supplies, medications, and equipment.
- Prepares invoices for payment and forwards them to accounting
- Maintains optimal medication, IV, and supply inventories by using effective inventory and group purchasing practices
- Returns to the wholesaler, manufacturer, or returns company all recalled, out of date, and overstocked medications
- Maintains and updates all drug inventory documents and related files for the Pharmacy in accordance with licensing requirements and regulatory agencies
- Uses data to maintain PAR levels and to process recalled and out of date medications
- Establishes productivity indicators, service standards, benchmarks, and inventory turns for senior management
- In-services all involved areas when Supply Chain changes occur
- Maintains contract compliance within Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) limitations
- Maintains records of medications and supplies borrowed or loaned and keeps accounts current
What We Require
Education A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Licensure, certification, and / or registration Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician is required within 9 months of hire.
Registration with state board of pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
Other Minimum Qualifications Familiarity (including strengths, dosage forms, and uses) with a large number of medications.
Attention to detail and accuracy. Must have basic computer skills. Basic mathematical and logistical problem solving skills.
Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision.
IV Admixture technicians must complete a course of instruction in sterile product preparation and demonstrate competency.
All technicians must complete an Orientation Competency. Addendum for ASHP-Accredited Program. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency with the English language (reading, writing and speaking) with an assessment completed during the interview, demonstrate math proficiency with an assessment completed during the interview, submit a personal statement (approximately 250 words) describing interest in the program as part of the initial application for the position, be eligible for registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the state board of pharmacy.
