Director of Cloud and Network Operations
Role Description
The optimal candidate will be a senior-level engineer with extensive experience and networking skills both on premises and in cloud.
The Avenu IT Infrastructure and Security Team is responsible for IT project planning and execution to support business objectives and key initiatives.
The team is also responsible for the operations and security of the Avenu Enterprise and Client Hosting environments on premises and in cloud.
This includes architecture, design, provisioning, administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities across multi-cloud and on premises services, security, networking, storage / virtualization, systems, and NOC / Help Desk.
Tasks typically involve :
- Clarifying a system specification, understanding work practices and the nature of the business of the requestor and stakeholders;
- Planning project timelines;
- Tracking Projects, Incidents, and Tasks;
- Creating high-level implementation plans when required;
- Developing agreed solutions and implementing new systems;
- Presenting solutions in written or oral reports;
- White-boarding complete or partial solutions;
- Creating project deliverables;
- Designing, installing, integrating, testing, and monitoring new systems;
- Contribute and refine the team’s process and methodology, including documentation.

- Experience with LAN / WAN networking technologies;
- VMware VeloCloud SD-WAN experience strongly desired;
- Ability to architect, configure, and troubleshoot WAN routing architectures;
- Solid understanding of IPSec and SSL VPN;
- Experience with Cloud networking strongly desired;
- Azure networking experience (e.g. ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway, Virtual Networks, Security Groups, Network Virtual Appliances, Routing, Load Balancers, App Gateways, Traffic Manager);
- AWS networking experience (e.g. DirectConnect, vPC, VPN, WAF, Security Groups, Routing, VPC Gateways, Elastic IP, Route53, Load Balancing, Global Traffic Management);
- Experience with Cisco (ASA / Firepower) and Palo Alto Firewalls strongly desired;
- Experience with Azure security and identity solutions desired;
- Load balancing / Acceleration solutions experience desired;
- Experience with data center networking technology;
- Good understanding of high-level network architecture;
- Ability to review application data flow diagrams;
- Hands on experience with IP-based networking for SAN / NAS;
- Hands on experience with Cisco LAN networking equipment;
- DNS experience;
- Hands on experience with Local and Remote Replication Technologies (Storage based, Host Based, Database, etc.);
- Experience with data migration methods (i.e. virtual environment, file share, and block migrations);
- Experience with data backup and business continuance and disaster recovery efforts;
- Experience with virtualization technology;
- VMware vSphere knowledge desired;
- Hands on experience with VMware vSphere networking;
- Experience with networking diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools;
- Experience with coding languages for scripting desired (e.g. Python);
- Proven design, Installation, administration, configuration, integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting experience with networking equipment, Cisco in particular;
- High emphasis on hands-on design and implementation experience, especially with routing protocols OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP desired;
- Solid technical background in datacenter technologies, including (but not exclusive to) servers, storage, virtualization, networking, infrastructure management, and data center facilities (power, cooling, ironwork, cabling);
- Advanced technical vendor certification in two or more datacenter domains desired;
- Ability to articulate impact of architecture decisions on physical layout;
- Ability to architect, articulate (to different stakeholders), and implement complex solutions spanning potentially multiple technologies, and business domains;
- Experience in solution requirements gathering;
- Experience with documentation of infrastructure design, system builds, configurations, and support procedures;
- Performing assessments and provide recommendations including gap analysis and recommendations;
The following additional technical skills are also highly desired :
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Active Directory (AD) strongly desired;
- Experience with Azure AD, and ADFS strongly desired;
- Experience with application migration and data migration strongly desired;
- Experience with IT Service Management (ITSM) solutions such as ServiceNow strongly desired;
- Experience with endpoint security solutions strongly desired;
- Experience with file systems desired;
- Experience with Azure IaaS desired;
- Demonstrated experience with app migrations to Azure desired;
- Understanding of how to design for highly available systems in Azure desired;
- Knowledge of Azure Database fundamentals (Azure SQL DB, Azure SQL Managed Instance) desired;
- Experience developing ARM Templates, Cloud formation templates, or Terraform desired;
One or more of the following certifications are desired :
- Azure Cloud Platform certifications;
- CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) Routing / Switching and / or Security and / or Data Center;
- CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) Cloud and / or Data Center and / or Routing / Switching;
- AWS Certified Advanced Networking;
- VCP certification (VMware Certified Professional).
