LABORER- DRAINAGE
Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled drainage work including maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, and maintenance of drainage projects.
Mows grass and cuts weeds using tractor and mower attachments, push mower, weed eater, sling blade or other appropriate hand tools.
Loads and unloads heavy objects. Operates chainsaws, motorized hand tools and related equipment. Operates other light automotive equipment and pick-up trucks as required to perform assigned duties.
Maintains and repairs equipment, as necessary. Regularly and timely attendance is required. Cross-training or job rotation within the Public Works department may be required, including the street and sanitation departments.
Rakes, vacuums, and bags leaves along with pine needles during the fall and winter months. Perform other duties as assigned and / or required.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Valid CDL Drivers License with a Class D endorsement before employment and maintain licensure for duration of employment in this position.
Four years of experience involving the use of medium to heavy equipment, two of which must be related to utility or street systems.
Working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in drainage, street, and utility work. Ability to drive and operate a variety of equipment under varying weather conditions.
Ability to work from construction specifications or blueprints. Ability to maintain accurate records, type and enter data accurately.
Ability to effectively communicate on a one-on-one basis with others. Ability to maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with other employees, department officials and the public.
Ability to report to work each scheduled day, and on time.
