The YMI is in the midst of a 6.8 million dollar Capital and Capacity campaign to renovate and repurpose the 129-year old YMI building and its adjacent retail space.

The campaign will upgrade the site to its historic glory and add the opportunity for greater classrooms, meetings spaces and co-working opportunities.

The campaign is being led by the Acting Director of Development. This position would join this team to bring closure to this campaign and assume the role of Director of Development.

A key criteria for the position is someone who is passionate about the mission of the YMI Cultural Center and can fully represent its constituency.

The position is open to those with that passion, who are willing to train and learn the requisite technical skills or areas expertise.

This position will have a great deal of responsibility and will provided the necessary training and support to ensure sustainable success.

JOB PURPOSE

The Director of Development is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fundraising as well as growing the organization’s revenue through cultivating, soliciting, stewarding, and retaining donors.

This role will be responsible for building relationships with individuals, businesses, community leaders, faith-based communities, government entities, organizations, and foundations.

The role is also responsible for working with the YMI staff and supporting team in developing and executing strategic, integrated communication strategies that effectively position and promote the organization and its services.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising

Create a comprehensive, diversified, yearly fundraising plan and corresponding budget. This includes major gifts, appeals (digital & print), recurring giving and online giving.

Establish the full use of a Customer Relations Management (CRM) system to ensure accurate and timely reports, acknowledgements, etc Use this system to monitor, evaluate, and report on revenues, expenses, goals, and timelines associated with fundraising strategies.

Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with volunteers, community and business leaders, foundations, grantors, donors, and the community at large.

Identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual and institutional prospects and donor

Communications

Create a comprehensive plan that keeps supporters informed through comprehensive and timely communications and inspires them to support YMI’s mission.

Support the development and implementation of social media marketing, public and media relations, website content, communication / resource development materials and brand management.

Serve as a community outreach ambassador and recruit other stakeholders to serve as ambassadors by attending community events, speaking, tabling, etc.

Engaging followers and acquiring new ones by providing tours, community outreach and other means for individuals to engage with the building as a means for cultural and organizational understanding as well as potential use for rental space..

QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent life experience

Comprehensive knowledge of nonprofit fundraising and communication

Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and other software

Experience maintaining a donor database- Little Green Light is preferred but not mandatory

Oral and written communication skills. Must be an effective public speaker and presenter

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS :

Valid North Carolina driver's license

Pass a criminal background check (NNC may make exceptions)
