The Opportunity
In this role, you will have the opportunity to :
- Work with a dynamic team within an established global infrastructure consulting and engineering company.
- Lead the development of environmental impact assessment and review documents in compliance with NEPA and / or CEQA.
- Join Black & Veatch’s Environmental team to provide strategic environmental consulting for a wide range of infrastructure projects to achieve environmental stewardship for our clients.
The Team
Our Environmental team is a multidisciplinary team of ecologists, engineers, scientists, project managers, and attorneys working together to identify optimum environmental solutions for our clients.
We have provided environmental consulting services in support of projects for over 40 years including a diverse and growing mix of infrastructure projects such as power generation (conventional and renewable) and transmission, oil and gas facilities and pipelines, water and wastewater treatment facilities, data centers, and food and beverage industries.
As a full-service environmental consulting practice, services include impact assessment and planning, regulatory compliance and permitting, wetland and floodplain analysis, waterbody and water quality assessment, air quality permitting and management, environmental remediation, site due diligence, environmental noise assessment, pollution prevention planning, and climate action solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of environmental impact assessment and review documents in compliance with NEPA, CEQA, and other similar state-specific or international programs.
- Operate both independently and as part of a team providing critical support to clients in environmental compliance planning, environmental permitting, due diligence, and environmental review services.
- Identify and interpret the statutes and regulations affecting the siting, design, construction, and operation of projects.
- Independently perform and lead small teams to conduct environmental analyses and develop permit applications, environmental reports, and environmental compliance procedures manuals.

- Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, environmental engineering, or sciences strongly preferred. May also consider other degrees, specialized training, or experience that uniquely qualifies the individual to perform the job responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience leading the development of environmental impact assessment and review documents in compliance with NEPA, CEQA, and / or international requirements, and familiarity with studies and other supporting documentation.
- Demonstrated success with domestic and international consulting, permitting, licensing, and environmental quality review processes for a wide range of infrastructure projects in sectors such as power generation, process industries, water / wastewater treatment, telecommunications, data centers, and industrial manufacturing.
- Experience leading and managing small teams to achieve timely and accurate project goals.
- Dedication to high quality deliverables for all clients, internal and external.
- Highly developed critical thinking skills with proven problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to balance multiple projects while working under tight deadlines.
- Proven technical writing abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
A minimum total of 8 years of related work experience is typically necessary to move into this level. Graduate work may count as related work experience if directly applicable to job function.

Work Environment / Physical Demands
Note this role will work hybrid 3 days a week in either Irvine, Sacramento, or San Marcos, CA office pending home location, with the opportunity to work 2 days remote outside of the office.
Work Environment : Typical office / home office environment. Physical Demands : Sitting, talking, grasping, hearing, keyboard input, driving, seeing, writing, reaching, stooping, crouching, walking, standing for extended periods of time.
Periodic domestic travel required. Infrequent international travel can be necessary.
