Position Summary

Assistant Branch Managers work with the Branch Manager to lead employees to achieve the strategic initiatives set forth for the branch.

This position assists the Branch Manager in the development, training, coaching, mentoring and performance of the branch employees.

The position is responsible for helping grow and develop the branch. In addition, the Assistant Branch Manager helps maintain compliance with Credit Union policies and procedures.

The position ensures the branch employees provide accurate service to the membership in a manner that is professional and engaging and offers members products and services to build lasting relationships.

The position assists the Branch Manager in supervising the operations of the branch, including sales, lending, new accounts, member service, and cash operations.

Work Location

The Assistant Branch Manager will support three branches within the Chicago area. Travel requirements will be discussed throughout the interview process.

Schedule

This position requires the ability to work during the branch hours of operation, including rotating Saturdays. Managers work every other Saturday and receive a consistent day off during the week to offset their hours.

Additional time may be required to fulfill responsibilities. This position is also required to represent the Credit Union in the community at events and volunteer functions outside of branch hours.

Branch hours of operations : Monday - Thursday 8 : 45am-5 : 45pmFriday 8 : 00am-6 : 15pmRotating Saturdays 8 : 45am-1 : 15pm

Work Location - This position is an onsite role at the assigned branch.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand performance of employees by recognizing strengths and areas of development, while mentoring, coaching, and developing skills for success, with support from Branch Manager
  • Deliver accurate and timely feedback regarding overall performance of employees; utilize performance management system to document employee performance, and provide timely delivery of reviews, with support from Branch Manager
  • Support Branch Manager in building branch culture to ensure a positive environment for employees and members
  • Be a change agent, supporting Branch Manager in communicating changes and initiatives to garner support from employees
  • Monitor, analyze, and create branch metrics to determine branch performance towards strategic initiatives
  • Demonstrate initiative, responsibility, integrity, professionalism, and dependability
  • Support Branch Manager in leading branch through difficult circumstances such as robbery
  • Maintain regular communication with Branch Manager and share relevant information
  • Provide timely response when information or follow up is needed
  • Support Branch Manager while working with employees in the corrective action process to improve their work performance, while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
  • Follow procedures to mitigate risk while ensuring others do the same
  • Assist employees in person and on Helpline with questions and overrides as needed
  • Build relationships with members by educating them about relevant products and services while training others to do the same
  • Understand, recognize, and act with urgency appropriate to situations
  • Analyze, research, and resolve discrepancies and offages
  • Assist in identifying and preparing employees to take on leadership roles within the Credit Union
  • Understand and be able to perform duties and responsibilities performed by employees
  • Assist employees in evaluating and decisioning member situations
  • Create promotions in conjunction with Branch Manager that align with the Credit Union’s initiatives while adding value to your branch
  • Assume risk and utilize lending limits commensurate with level, while mentoring others in Credit Union philosophy
  • Use judgment and decision making skills to protect members and the Credit Union, while teaching others to do the same
  • Work with other departments to provide superior service and consistency for the membership and employees
  • Recognize training needs within your area, create and / or coordinate relevant resources with support from Branch Manager
  • Develop understanding of appropriate staffing levels
  • Create, distribute and implement a consistent schedule that aligns with branch volume
  • Participate in hiring and onboarding process
  • Maintain professionalism with interactions and relationships throughout the Credit Union
  • Attend and support internal Credit Union events
  • Represent the Credit Union at events within the surrounding community
  • Ensure employees have working knowledge and understanding of emergency guidelines
  • Oversee the completion and accuracy of all audits to remain in compliance with policy
  • Support Branch Manager in responding to, and taking corrective action on, all internal and external audit findings
  • Remain current on information, processes and software relevant to branches
  • Maintain compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations, in addition to Credit Union policies and guidelines
  • Participate in training activities to ensure compliance with Credit Union policies and Federal and State regulations and laws
  • Lead branch meetings and conduct presentations within branch with support from Branch Manager
  • Share recommendations for the development of goals, objectives, and sales strategies for your branch
  • Use critical thinking skills to solve problems
  • Respond to escalated member situations with support, while teaching others to do the same
  • Handle complex situations finding the most appropriate solution, with support from Branch Manager
  • Support Branch Manager in implementing strategic direction for the year
  • Become familiar with the Credit Union financials
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate cash and card levels
  • Safeguard cash and cash equivalents
  • Maintain physical branch location
  • Troubleshoot and maintain branch equipment ensuring optimal operation
  • Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned

  • Previous management experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree and / or Financial industry experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Management positions may require temporary or permanent relocation to another location based on business need

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
  • Occasionally needs to move about inside of office area
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure
  • This position requires onsite presence at the employee’s assigned location for all scheduled shifts.
  • This position requires onsite working arrangements.
