This position supervises medical staff, including RNs, LPNs, and Emergency Medical Technicians. It assists management with daily center operations, including staff development, process assessment and improvement, troubleshooting issues, and managing donor flow.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for all aspects of the donor center in the absence of the Assistant Manager and / or Center Manager
  • Conduct screening procedures to include taking blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, and arm checks
  • Perform finger sticks to test donors for hematocrit testing and total protein testing utilizing screening equipment. Monitor the electronic donor questionnaire system
  • Determine donor eligibility by performing donor eligibility assessments, to include; medical history interview, physical examination, educating donor on donor testing, HIV / AIDS virus, donation risks, informed consent, confidential self-exclusion, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) testing as necessary
  • Provide counseling to Donors regarding unacceptable test results
  • Evaluate and attend to donor adverse events during the donation process
  • Follow all standard operating procedures for all medical emergencies, to include communication with the Center Medical Director and donor transport to emergency medical care facilities.

Communicate and seek direction from Center Medical Director and Center Management as necessary

  • Learn and maintain thorough familiarity and compliance with all state and federal regulations, Standard Operating Procedure Manual, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), and internal Company procedures
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local, and company-specific rules, regulations, and practices related to the quality and safety of products, donors, and employee
  • Participate with management in conducting performance appraisals, providing performance feedback. With management review, document verbal and written coaching level corrective actions as needed.

Assist in maintaining up-to-date employee training files, checklists and assist with performance evaluations and certification status

  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Actively licensed or certified in the state where performing duties : Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, or Paramedic, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Licensed Vocation Nurse (LVN), Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum one (1) year work experience preferred
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
  • Frequent leaning, bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching above the shoulders and below the knee
  • Manual dexterity to perform all phases of donor plasmapheresis
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time for up to four (4) hours at a time
  • Ability to make and analyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc.
  • Ability to lift, tug, pull up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Typical work environment with moderate notice level
  • May be exposed to freezing temperatures for short periods of time
  • Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens
