SERV, a well-established leader in behavioral healthcare in New Jersey, supports people with mental illness and / or intellectual / developmental disabilities as they achieve greater independence and life satisfaction through a wide range of services.

Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor, the Crisis Peer Recovery Specialist is responsible for responding to 988 and warmline calls, assessments, crisis counseling, conducting screenings and referrals for substance use, co-occurring, and ancillary services.

This position acts as a liaison between the consumers, community programs, services, and community members. Utilizing their experiences in recovery, the Crisis Peer Recovery Specialist works with Individual served to instill a message of hope and share experiential knowledge.

Services include one-on-one peer mentoring, peer led support groups, telephone outreach, assisting individuals in accessing community resources, services, and affiliation with recovery support social activities.

Assisting with new employees training and assisting with IOP group coordination. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Responding to 988 and warmline calls, assessments, crisis counseling.
  • Conduct outreach activities, including weekly presentations at community programs.
  • Develop and revise monthly outreach activity schedules to maximize community engagement.
  • Contact community agencies to schedule presentations of agency programs to promote collaboration and awareness.
  • Lead the facilitation of new employee substance use disorder (SUD) training workshops.
  • Assist with overseeing intake workflow and ensuring proper coverage for Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) groups in the absence of the Clinical Supervisor.
  • Provide mentoring, peer-led support groups, and telephone outreach to individuals in recovery.
  • Offer one-on-one peer mentoring sessions and facilitate support groups to foster a sense of community and belonging.
  • Share experiential knowledge and instill a message of hope to inspire and motivate individuals in their recovery journey.
  • Assist individuals in accessing community resources, services, and recovery support activities outside of our organization.
  • Conduct assessments and intakes as needed to identify appropriate services for consumers.
  • Identify and recommend suitable consumers for participation in groups or services based on their needs and preferences.
  • Effectively provide psycho-educational groups as assigned, utilizing evidence-based practices to educate and empower participants.

Client Follow-up and Advocacy :

  • Track medical, behavioral, substance use, and other network referrals to ensure follow-up and attendance to appointments.
  • Conduct phone and physical outreach to consumers who have missed appointments or require additional support.
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up regarding self-care, medications, service plan adherence, and other psycho-social issues.
  • Assist with the 24-hour crisis hotline.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Assist consumers with insurance or other benefits to ensure continuity of care.
  • Complete necessary documents / forms for consumers’ records and to facilitate access to services.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team and external service providers / referrals to provide comprehensive support to consumers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as needed to support departmental or organizational goals.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Knowledge of current principles and practices of behavioral healthcare, substance use and mentally ill.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize competing demands and thrive in a fast-paced environment

Required Licenses or Experience

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Certification as a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS)
  • Valid driver’s license
