Position description

The UCLA Master of Quantitative Economics program (MQE) invites applications for a Lecturer with domain expertise in SQL and data management for the 2024-2025 academic year.

This is a non-tenure teaching track appointment, on a part-time basis and made quarter by quarter, as dictated by instructional needs.

The instructor will develop and teach a course in SQL and data management specifically designed for MQE students that will arm them with critical professional skills.

The course takes place in person at UCLA and meets for 75-minutes twice per week (total of 150 minutes of instruction time).

The successful candidate will possess knowledge and expertise in SQL, basic and advanced queries, creating tables, relational data, database construction, data migration and integration.

Candidate will have extensive expertise utilizing a variety of associated tools including Excel, VBA, Tableau.

Responsibilities of the position will include developing the syllabus and course; delivering lectures and applied lessons;

holding regularly scheduled office hours; being responsive and helpful to students; developing and grading assignments and providing guidance to students involved in co-curricular applied projects.

Applicants are expected to have :

  • Master's degree or higher in economics, business, management, engineering, or equivalent
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, capable of leading lectures of 50+ students
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and data management techniques
  • 5+ years of work experience using SQL in a professional setting
