Overview
The Magistrate / JP Attorney will oversee Magistrate Court dockets and Justice of the Peace dockets. This position is responsible for attending dockets and maintaining communication with police agencies and pre-trial services officers who monitor bond conditions. This position will serve as the attorney for the Justice of the Peace Class C misdemeanors. Additionally, this position will review non-family violence misdemeanor cases at the intake stage of prosecution.
Responsibilities
- Reads, reviews, and analyzes files of the Magistrate Court and Justice of the Peace dockets to be presented in court.
- Performs legal research to support cases and answer inquiries related to law within the state and county.
- Works with victims of violent crimes, Class C misdemeanors, truancy, cases of parents contributing to non-attendance, and conducts misdemeanor intake reviews.
- Communicates with police agencies and pre-trial services officers about bond conditions and files requests for bond reviews with the District Courts.
- Monitors inmate population for length of stay before case filing.
- Collaborate and cohesively work with all other Intake attorneys.
- Serves as a point of contact for law enforcement.
- Regular and punctual attendance required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Doctoral degree required for this position.Minimum one year of experience in a related field required.Must possess a license to practice law in the State of Texas.Must be able to pass a State Criminal History background check.Additional information
