Job Summary
The Work Study Library Public Services Specialist I will work at the Circulation desk providing friendly and effective services to library patrons, including students, staff and faculty.
The positions available for the Fall 2024 semester are :
Weekday afternoons
Monday and Wednesday 12 : 00pm-3 : 00pm
Tuesday and Thursday 12 : 00pm-4 : 30pm
Friday 2 : 00pm-4 : 30pm
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Assist library patrons by performing various duties at the circulation desk. This includes but is not limited to :
- Assisting patrons with basic reference and non-research questions.
- Help patrons with retrieval of library materials.
- Answering the telephones.
- Cleaning and organizing duties.
- Explain and help with the printing process.
- Conduct hourly building walkthroughs.
- Checkout library materials to students including laptops, books, anatomy models, etc.
- Assist with opening procedures.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Support the operations of the library. Minimum Qualifications Must be eligible for work study.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Preferred Qualifications Previous library or customer service work experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
Interact effectively with students, staff, faculty, and community members. Provide effective customer service to a diverse population.
Solve problems efficiently and effectively in accordance with SLCC Library and Salt Lake Community College policies. Express ideas and follow directions both verbally and in writing.
Manage time effectively. Work independently with minimal supervision. Multi-task while on desk duty. Stand, bend, and lift up to 10lbs, as well as push loaded book carts.
Learn and utilize library classification systems such as Library of Congress. Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties Assist in shelf reading as needed to keep collection in order.
Assist in the annual collection inventory.
