Department Counseling & Psychological Svc College College of Education & Human Development Campus Atlanta Position Type Full Time Faculty Posting Type Internal / External About the Department The Department of Counseling & Psychological Services has nine graduate programs, including our APA-Accredited School Psychology Ph.

D. and our NASP-accredited M.Ed. / Ed.S. School Psychology programs. The department also offers two additional doctoral programs (Counselor Education and Practice, and Counseling Psychology) and three master's programs (Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Counseling), and an Ed.

S. degree in School Counseling. The current program faculty has a well-established national reputation in school psychology and is committed to maintaining a collegial and supportive program environment in a research-intensive institution.

Our departmental mission is to advance the fields of counseling and psychology by promoting rigorous research, applying evidence-based treatments, and advocating for effective social policies.

We are dedicated to preparing distinguished professionals who use empirically validated methods to support and enhance the well-being of the communities they serve.

Position Description The Department of Counseling and Psychological Services at Georgia State University is searching for a tenure-track, assistant professor in the School Psychology PhD and M.

Ed / EdS. programs. Potential research and training interests might focus on a variety of themes consistent with foundational strengths of School Psychology, including but not limited to consultation, prevention science, positive behavioral interventions & supports, inclusive education, early intervention / school readiness, and culturally responsive practice.

Candidates will advance a focused line of research that has long-term potential for external research funding. An ideal candidate would have a research agenda that can support doctoral students in collaborative research.

Preference will also be given to applicants with a vision for strengthening the strategy and goals of the Center for Research on School Climate.

We are interested in innovative ideas for how to expand the long-term, national prominence of the Center. In addition, the faculty member will teach masters-, specialist-, and doctoral-level courses in the program and department.

Required Experience Required Education The individual chosen for this position must have an earned doctorate from an APA-accredited program in school psychology at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications / Experience This person must demonstrate potential to publish articles in top outlets in school psychology and related fields.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge : o Expertise in key areas of school psychology curriculum o Expertise in research methodology sufficient to mentor doctoral students
  • Skills : o Proficient in conducting and publishing scholarly research. o Effective mentorship skills for graduate students including chairing dissertations.

o Strong teaching skills with the ability to design and deliver graduate-level school psychology courses.

Abilities : o Ability to develop and maintain a focused line of research and secure external funding. o Ability to serve as core faculty in a doctoral program in School Psychology program(s).

o Collaboration with partners within the department, university, nationally, or internationally o Ability to teach courses across the curriculum.

o Capable of providing service to the program, department, college, university, and profession. o Ability to engage in robust scholarly activity and maintain a track record of professional development.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations, etc Candidate must be eligible for credentialing as a school psychologist and / or licensure in the state of Georgia as a psychologist.
