What will the ESG Sustainability Manager do?

The ESG Sustainability Manager will lead the development and execution of the company’s ESG strategies, focusing on sustainable logistics, ethical governance, and social responsibility in the transportation industry.

The ideal candidate has experience in the transportation industry and is a passionate storyteller with a talent for simplifying complex ESG concepts into impactful campaigns.

They will collaborate with operations and senior management to reduce environmental impacts, uphold ethical labor standards, and ensure transparent governance, driving a culture of sustainability and social consciousness within the company.

What is the ESG Sustainability Manager responsible for?

Environmental Stewardship :

  • Prioritize reducing the company’s carbon footprint, through initiatives like renewable energy, fuel efficiency, emission reduction, including environmentally friendly automotive products, focusing on the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid technologies, and other green sustainable materials.
  • Oversee compliance with environmental regulations and collaborate with senior management to set ESG goals and objectives aligned with the company’s business strategy.
  • Explore opportunities for using renewable energy sources within the company’s facilities and operations.
  • Implement recycling programs for materials used in operations, such as packaging, vehicle parts, and tires.
  • Ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials, including vehicle fluids and batteries, to prevent environmental contamination.

Social Responsibility :

  • Focus on fair labor practices, diversity and inclusion, community involvement, and ethical business conduct.
  • Develop and Implement community engagement and social impact programs, particularly those that benefit communities impacted by the company's operations.
  • Ensure fair labor practices and human rights standards are upheld in the supply chain.
  • Ensure transparency in operations and maintain high standards of customer service.
  • Educate customers on the environmental and social impacts of vehicle transportation, promoting sustainable choices.

Governance and Compliance :

  • Ensure the company adheres to all relevant ESG regulations and industry standards, including those related to transportation and emissions.
  • Develop and maintain ESG reporting systems and prepare annual sustainability reports
  • Monitor and assess the impact of evolving ESG regulations and trends on the automotive industry.
  • Uphold strong corporate governance principles, transparency, and accountability.
  • Engage with investors, customers, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders to communicate the company’s ESG performance and commitments.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for ESG ratings agencies and sustainability indices.

Data Management and Reporting :

  • Collect, analyze, and report on ESG data monthly to measure progress against established goals.
  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking ESG performance and reporting, while analyzing and modeling the impact of new sustainability activities and long-term growth forecasts on sustainability roadmaps.
  • Developing and analyzing forecasts of zero emission vehicle sales and market penetration.
  • Prepare annual Sustainability report highlighting successes and identifying areas for improvement.

Continuous Improvement :

  • Stay informed on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in ESG, particularly those relevant to transportation and logistics.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation in the company’s ESG practices.
  • Engage cross-functionally to execute test and learn plans to drive engagement and support key business initiatives in a scalable way.
  • Develop and execute sustainability initiatives and ensure product innovations and renovations adhere to sustainability standards.
  • Assess current operating procedures, materials, and methods, anticipate and implement changes or modifications based on sustainability goals, and perform lifecycle assessments and cost analyses of proposed modifications.

What knowledge, skills and abilities are required for the ESG Sustainability Manager role?

  • 4-7 years of work experience in Transportation, Strategy, Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics,Sustainability, ESG Management or Equivalent Experience.
  • Experience within the automotive industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ESG practices related to sustainability innovation and planning, specifically in the transportation industry
  • Strong understanding of ESG frameworks, standards, and regulations (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD)
  • Experience in project management, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data management and reporting tools.

Education :

  • Bachelor's Degree : In Environmental Science, Transportation, Public Policy, Sustainability, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications : A master's degree or professional certification such as LEED, GRI, or SASB is highly preferred..

Travel :

25%-50% travel throughout the company’s locations in US and Canada

Verbal and auditory requirements include the ability to communicate clearly over the telephone as well as in person.

There is a moderate level of grasping, lifting, pushing and / or pulling of objects of less than 25 lbs.
