JOB SUMMARY The Assistant Director of Post-Award Operations will lead a team of post-award professionals committed to expanding research funding at the School of Medicine (SOM) and elevating the scale and eminence of SLU research.

This position is responsible for oversight of all post-award activities within the SOM GO Center, faculty and staff post-award training, and ensuring compliance of federal regulations and sponsor guidelines, as well as University policies and procedures.

  • PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees the daily post-award operations of the SOM GO Center while supervising post-award staff members who support faculty in grant management Reviews and approves awards, award corrections, and budgets in appropriate University systems;
  • assists post-award team members in reconciling award expenditures and forecasting future award expenditures Monitors compliance with external sponsor and University regulations regarding post-award management;

educates and trains faculty and post-award team members on appropriate grant management or post-award regulations, processes, and policies Communicates and works with faculty researchers, Sponsored Programs Accounting (SPA), Contracts, IRB, IACUC, and COI when issues are elevated regarding grant awards Collaborates with SPA to ensure monthly grant certifications are completed on time and all funded projects are closed out consistent with University processes and timelines Performs other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Extensive knowledge of grant processes and award / contract management Knowledge of best practices in research administration and current regulations in the areas of research administration (OMB A-21, A-110, A-113, or the Uniform Guidance) or interpretation of similar regulations Knowledge of concepts related to sponsor-specific policies, intellectual property policy, conflict of interest requirements, publication rights, application of indirect cost rates and other complex concepts in research administration Project facilitation and management skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong computer skills and ability to work with various sponsor electronic systems Ability to maintain accurate records and attention to details Proven ability to generate high quality written communications and reports Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborations with the diverse campus community and representatives from foundations and federal agencies Ability to manage detail and to organize and prioritize workload during high-pressure, high volume workload periods Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion and tact Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, heavy-volume department Ability to develop and manage interpersonal relationships Ability to exercise absolute discretion regarding confidential matters Ability to travel to various on-campus locations on a frequent basis required Some travel may be required MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree Three years experience working with sponsored research administration in an academic setting PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Masters degree
