Position Summary

The Opportunity : This is a part-time, hourly position, typically working 15 or fewer hours per week during the period of Monday through Friday within business hours of 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm.

Work days and hours may vary based on the needs of the program. Temporary positions may only work 1050 hours or 12 consecutive months from the date of hire, whichever comes first .

The exact schedule will be worked out with the candidate selected for hire.

Skagit Valley College (SVC) Early Childhood Education & Assistance Program (ECEAP) is accepting applications on a continuous basis to establish a talent pool of early learning applicants.

Skagit Valley College (SVC) is accepting applications for ECEAP Substitutes Classroom Support (not more than 15 hours per week) on the Mount Vernon Campus or other locations.

ECEAP promotes the school readiness of young children from low-income families by providing comprehensive services in early learning, health, and family well-being.

The ECEAP program is designed to help children from underserved backgrounds develop the skills they need to be ready for school and acquire a passion for lifelong learning.

Food Service Worker

Prepares, serves, cleans, and keeps records for snacks and meals that meet USDA requirements for children ranging from 0-5 years of age.

Custodial Aide (Custodian)

Performs routine and special housekeeping tasks to maintain the cleanliness and care of the Center's classroom and / or facility.

Classroom Aide (ECPS1)

Assists with set-up, clean-up, mealtimes, and organization of materials for classroom activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Food Service Worker

  • Prepare food for breakfast and snacks, and prepare and / or serve lunch at the Centers;
  • Follow appropriate food handling practices using disposable gloves, keeping foods at the proper temperature, and recording food temperatures as requested;
  • Follow a cycle menu assuring adequate food portions are available for the number of and ages of children enrolled in the program;
  • Keep accurate records of the daily attendance and USDA-eligible meals served;
  • Provide food substitutions as appropriate for special dietary needs;
  • Clean up after breakfast and lunch, utilizing proper dishwashing methods to ensure the sanitation of dishes;
  • Sanitize tables where children eat, food preparation areas, and food transportation equipment;
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and appliances;
  • May assist in the supervision of children upon arrival / departure, on the playground, and in the classroom and / or bathrooms;
  • May assist children in modeling family-style eating routines;
  • May assist children in the development of self-help skills;
  • Maintain confidentiality per ECEAP policies and procedures.

Custodial Aide

  • Clean and sanitize classroom, including high and low dusting, wiping and disinfecting tables, cupboards, and countertops, sweeping, mopping, and / or vacuuming floors, and cleaning / sanitizing restrooms;
  • Empty wastebaskets, trash, and recycling containers;
  • Set up, take down, and adjust equipment such as paint easels, folding chairs, and tables (including leg height) as needed for meetings and classroom use;
  • Assist teaching staff with clean up of activities from the classroom;
  • Assist teaching staff with sanitizing and / or cleaning toys and materials from the classroom;
  • May assist staff with set-up, preparation, and clean-up of food service in the Center's kitchen;
  • This may include washing, drying, folding, and putting away laundry;
  • Maintain confidentiality per ECEAP policies and procedures.

Classroom Aide

Working under the direction of the Lead Teacher :

  • Assist with set-up, clean-up, and presentation of classroom and outdoor activities;
  • Organize materials needed for classroom activities;
  • Store and maintain educational materials and equipment;
  • Assist in serving and cleaning up after snacks and lunches;
  • Assist with child guidance during meal times;
  • Assist with maintaining enrollment and nutrition records;
  • Monitor children during free time, field trips, and transition periods;
  • Model appropriate behavior for children;
  • Use developmentally appropriate communication skills;
  • Contribute to maintaining a healthy and safe classroom environment;
  • Maintain confidentiality per ECEAP Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

For all positions : High school completion or a GED.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • For Food Service Workers
  • Experience in food preparation;
  • Experience in an early learning setting.
  • For Custodial Aide
  • Custodial experience;
  • Experience in an early learning setting.
  • For Classroom Aide
  • Child Development Associate Credential (CDA);
  • One (1) year experience in an early learning setting.

Salary and Benefits :

  • Rate of pay is $16.28 per hour for all positions.
  • Note : these rates of pay are subject to change and may increase depending on the results of a salary review.
  • Eligibility for benefits is in compliance with state rules and regulations.

Conditions of Employment

  • Prior to employment, the candidate must pass a criminal background check;
  • If hired, you will be required to provide proof that you are either 1) a U.S. citizen or 2) an immigrant whose status permits you to lawfully work in this country;
