Summary

The Lead Medical Assistant works under the direction of the assigned medical provider, or to the CSS Supervisor or Site Manager if no assigned provider, for matters related to direct patient care.

Reports to direct supervisor for personnel matters, work assignments or other non-patient related issues. As a family health center, services provided include family planning, prenatal care, and primary care for pediatric and adult patients.

The Lead MA performs duties only within the scope of his / her training. The Lead MA maintains patient confidentiality and always conducts himself / herself in a professional manner.

Responsibilities / Duties :

  • Positively affects patient experience by demonstrating values of Transforming Care including, but not limited to, courteous and helpful behavior and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Display knowledge of normal signs of human development and ability to assess and provide age appropriate care.
  • Respond promptly and with caring actions to patients and employees. Acknowledge psychosocial, spiritual and cultural beliefs and honor these beliefs.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with all levels of staff, clients and the public.
  • Be part of a team and cooperate in accomplishing department goals and objectives

Team Support

Responsible for training or mentoring of new hires as pertains to Medical Assistants in the back office area in coordination with the R.

N. Assigns new hire to another Medical Assistant if unable to directly train the individual. Assures that new hires have an opportunity to experience those tasks identified on the skills check off list.

  • Shares accountability for overall patient health outcomes, working in coordination with Care Teams
  • Operates to instill confidence in our care and in our facilities to patients, fellow employees, and other stakeholders
  • Works well with others.
  • Contribute to the success of the organization by participating in quality improvement activities

Clinical administration

  • Responsible for monitoring patient flow in the back office and cross covering when needed.
  • Adjust daily assignments to provide sufficient coverage where needed, including lunch time; assuring there is adequate M.

A. coverage during all patient contact times.

  • Responsible for scheduling medical assistants.
  • Monitoring the daily assignments for completeness of task; i.e., recording of daily temperatures of refrigerators and freezers, stocking of exam rooms, empty sharps containers and infectious waste, data entry of SDIR, autoclaving and spore testing and checking dates on a regular schedule.
  • Maintains sufficient supplies to perform tasks in the back office area.
  • Reports any equipment failure and responds appropriately to correct the problem.
  • Provides input into the evaluations of the Medical Assistants working in the back office.
  • Leads back office meetings as well as attends any additional meetings as directed by the Clinical Services Supervisor or Site Manager.
  • Functions at highest level according to credentials and competency

COMPLIANCE (Safety & HIPAA)

  • Follow all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare’s Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and report any injuries and / or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices.
  • Follow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions.
  • Be familiar with location of nearest fire extinguisher and emergency exits.
  • Follow all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocols
  • Maintain privacy of all patient, employee and volunteer information and access such information only on a need to know basis for business purposes.
  • Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations. Report all behaviors and / or activities that are unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • High school / GED required
  • Valid medical assistant certificate from an accredited program required
  • Valid BLS certifications required upon hire
  • Two years medical assistant experience required
  • Lead or supervisory experience preferred, or successful completion of LEAP

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) highly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Familiarity with medical procedures and terminology
  • Proficiency with electronic health records system experience preferred
  • Intermediate computer and data entry skills
  • Must use sound judgement to anticipate needs of patients and providers
  • Flexibility with changing priorities and time sensitive deadlines
  • Use emotional and cultural intelligence to provide appropriate communication and patient care
  • Exemplify compassion to patients and team members
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Ability to work with highly confidential information in a professional and ethical manner

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift / carry 15 lbs / weight
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

Pay range : $27.96 - $34.18 / hr, depending on experience. (DOE)
