Job Description : Purpose :
Purpose :
Under general supervision of the Associate Director, with latitude for initiative and independent judgement involving the day to day supervision of and operating segment of the Radiology Department in the delivery of radiological services.
Performs routine x-ray procedures as well as those of a higher technical nature. Operates x-ray equipment, and prepares radiological areas, equipment, supplies and contrast materials for purpose of performing radiographic examinations on Coney Island Hospital patients.
Performs all related work associated with patient care in the Radiology Department.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities :
The CT Technologist is charged with and responsible for :
- Performs radiologic services in accordance with standards established by the hospital as well as Federal, State, and Local standards.
- Is responsible for the technical aspect of Radiation Safety within the Radiology Department, as recommended by the Radiation Safety Officer.
- Acts as a working supervisor to coordinate and provide operating supervision to technologists and ancillary personnel assigned to his / her sector of responsibility.
Supervises the delivery of radiological services in accordance with established standards and procedures for the service area.
Assures continuous coverage and proper staffing levels of his / her sector of responsibility throughout shift changes, by providing for replacement staff for absences, or remaining on duty when replacements cannot be found.
- Recommends changes and improvements relating to the delivery of radiological services.
- Participates in the development, orientation and training for radiology personnel. Demonstrates new or revised techniques, procedures, or equipment.
- Prepares patient for x-ray examination, explains procedure to patient, questions female patients regarding possible pregnancy, transfers patient to examination table, positions patient, makes pre-determined exposure according to technique guide recommendations as well as job knowledge and good radiologic practices, and assists patient at end of procedure.
- Follow prescribed techniques and protocols in administrating general and specific x-ray examinations. Adjusts equipment;
determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time. Arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain and maintain proper patient positioning.
Adjusts lead protective shielding where applicable, and applies beam collimation to limit primary beam to the field of interest.
Transfers images to PACS as well as Nighthawk when needed.
- Observes patient and radiographic unit during procedure, reports unusual occurrences and records patient's condition when appropriate.
- Maintains adequate supplies and equipment, and is responsible for :
- reporting equipment problems
- cleanliness of equipment and radiographic room
- following inventory control procedures including sign in and sign out of film supplies.
- Records all information pertaining to the examination performed onto the patient request form, department log sheets and / or logbooks, including any information which will be helpful to the Radiologist or which describes limitations of the examination performed.
- Provides for proper image identification, in the manner prescribed by the Department of Radiology, and is directly responsible for assuring that all images are labeled properly and completely.
- Transports and uses mobile x-ray equipment in patient care areas as required. Provides radiographic coverage in the Operating Room, as required.
- Serves as a intradepartmental liaison to ensure departmental workflow. Knowledge of Patent Safety requirements
- Assists the Radiologist in the performance of angiography, radiographic, or fluoroscopic examinations when required.
- Performs all required paperwork as assigned by the supervisor or required by hospital policy (ie : incident reporting, etc.)
- Keeps abreast of new trends and techniques in Radiography, and participates in department and hospital continuing education programs.
- Performs all related computer work in the radiology Information System, as required. Is responsible for editing the exception lists during his / her shift or tour.
- Prepares and submits shift reports to the Associate Director.
- Keeps aware of and practices the guidelines and recommended for general safety, electrical safety, radiation safety, and the proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Participates in staff meeting, as required by supervisor.
- Keeps records, prepares reports and performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications :
For Supervisory Assignments : a valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH;
and two (2) years of Radiologic Technologist experience performing duties consistent with Assignment Levels I and II, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
For Specialized Imaging Assignments : a valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH;
and possession of a current advanced level certification for the performance of these procedures.
