SUMMARY :
Under the general supervision of the Dental Director, the Staff Dentist will provide and administer preventive dental diagnosis and treatment care for Center patients (pediatric, adult, and geriatric).
Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress and the ability to organize and prioritize work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Knowledge and understanding of Employee Handbook.
- Carry out the meaning of the CSMD Mission and Vision statements.
- Practice a culture of safety to reduce or prevent risk of injury, claims, loss, or liability by utilizing the Risk Management and Infection Control Plan.
- Perform responsibilities with a high-quality standard to yield improved compliance, quality, and patient outcome measures by adhering to the Quality Improvement Plan.
- Be present and ready for work as scheduled.
- Attend in-service trainings, departmental meetings, and community events.
- Work cohesively with team members.
- Consults with the Dental Director, Chief Executive Officer or designee before decisions are made on questions of interpretation.
- Examine, provide diagnosis, and plan treatment for patients.
- Perform prophylaxis, scaling, root planning, and oral hygiene instruction.
- Perform endodontic therapy.
- Perform restorative dentistry.
- Perform oral surgery with special consideration given to patient's general health.
- Provide immediate treatment of dental emergencies.
- Prescribe medications as necessary.
- Remove decay from teeth and fill cavities.
- Repair cracked or fractured teeth and remove teeth.
- Place sealants or whitening agents on teeth.
- Administer anesthetics to keep patients from feeling pain during procedures.
- Prescribe antibiotics or other medications.
- Examine x-rays of teeth, gums, the jaw, and nearby areas in order to diagnose problems.
- Make models and measurements for dental appliances, such as dentures, to fit patients.
- Teach patients about diets, flossing, the use of fluoride, and other aspects of dental care.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Dental Director and / or the Chief Executive Officer. REQUIREMENTS :

Graduate of an accredited Dental School.
LICENSES, REGISTRATION AND / OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED :
One to two years experienced in a community health center setting preferred.
JOB KNOWLEDGE :
Board Certified / Eligible in a primary care dental specialty. Must have a current State of Louisiana Dental License.
