CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
  • Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  • Must pass a basic skills test.
  • Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  • Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  • CPI training must be obtained at the next available opportunity. Level I and II required.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  • Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
  • Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
  • Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
  • Must be first-aid certified or be willing to acquire first aid training as soon as possible.
  • Physical ability and willingness to supervise Development Therapy and general education students at recess and during PE and music classes.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  • Evidence of proficiency in word processing and computer use.
  • Successful working experience with behaviorally disabled students, and with early childhood and elementary level children.
  • Knowledge of prescribed instructional and behavioral management programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of intervention procedures with students.
  • Evidence of ability to model appropriate behaviors and to provide consistent intervention procedures with students.
  • Evidence of patience and warmth in working with students and able to remain calm in crisis.
  • Evidence of ability to be aware of a number of students involved in varying activities and the ability to respond quickly and with good judgment as appropriate.
  • Ability to maintain ongoing documentation of student IEPs goals and objectives.
  • Physically able to lift and / or restrain elementary-aged students as needed.
  • Positive performance evaluations and recommendations.
  • Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of the ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
  • Successful experience in "team teaching" situations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct support to special education students in the Tier II Behavior program.
  • Provide support for physical / health needs of students as required.
  • Assist teachers with needed clerical or instructional tasks.
  • Assist with data collection.
  • Will implement prescribed strategies for behavioral interventions.
  • Assist in supervision and control of students in order to promote a safe, orderly, positive learning climate.
  • Complete required paperwork with accuracy and efficiency to maintain compliance with state and school district regulations.
  • Assist specialists (, Music, Library) in supervision of special education students as required.
  • Make parent contacts and attend student update meetings.
  • Supervise students during recess times within the school day.
  • Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Lifting : The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. with help; must also be able to lift overhead.
