Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- In possession of appropriate Virginia Teaching Certificate.
- Tuberculin skin test certifying that the individual is free of contagious tuberculosis.
- In-depth knowledge of the subject(s) to be taught
- In-depth knowledge of the Adult Basic Education / GED subjects : language arts reading, language arts writing, mathematics, social studies, and science.
- Strong background in English or mathematics, preferred.
- Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies related to teaching the adult learning. Experience working with the adult learner preferred.
- Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports.
- Knowledgeable in the use of technology and various instructional platforms for adult education and workforce development.
Nature of Position
- Plans, designs, and delivers learning-centered instruction to students within the adult education program.
- Teachers within a flexible learning environment that includes, but is not limited to, virtual / online learning, the hybrid model, and / or in-person format.
In person class locations may include school-based or community-based settings.
- Assesses learning and monitors student progress. Develops instructional focus and support based on adult learner needs.
- Integrates technology and uses a variety of multimedia resources to enhance instruction.
- Maintains knowledge and pursues professional development related to content areas taught.
- Collaborates and communicates effectively with administrators, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
- Collects, manages, and reports accurate data for program improvement and accountability.
- Demonstrates an understanding and sensitivity to the needs and circumstances of the adult learner. Establishes a positive rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
- Adheres to all division and program related policies, including prgram procedures and guildelines for the maintenacne and security of materials, data, records, and equipment.
- Facilitates and encourages learner interaction in the classroom. Provides direct standards-based instruction to the adult learner.
Provides remediation and intervention when needed.
- Demonstrates an understanding of learner’s responsibilities as workers, family members, and community members.
- Recognizes and accommodates diverse needs, abilities, experiences, and interests of each adult learner.
- Employs a variety of resources, strategies, and materials to facilitate instruction, learner interaction, and retention.
