Department Based Tier One Program members receive the Dept Tier One Premium of $10.00 / hour for all paid hours, including PTO.
They are also eligible for shift differential and holiday premium pay as per Medical Center policy. This program offers enhanced compensation with the following expectation :
- Work commitment 72 hours per pay period
- Minimum of 48 hours on night shift per pay period
- Remaining hours scheduled to meet unit needs
- Scheduled a maximum of every other weekend
- Self-scheduling is not available
- Fully benefitted position
4 West is the acute and intermediate care unit for UVA’s Thoracic, Cardiac, and Vascular (TCV) surgical patient population.
TCV surgery patients are admitted for procedures including coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), cardiac valve repair and replacement, AAA repair, lung resection, esophagectomy, heart and lung transplant, limb amputations, femoral popliteal bypass, and carotid endarterectomy.
The nurse-patient ratio is 4 or 5 : 1 in acute care and 3 : 1 in TIMU.
4 West is 30-bed unit which includes 18 acute-care beds and a 12-bed TCV Intermediate Care Unit (TIMU). The TIMU provides care for TCV patients who do not need the intense ICU environment of our CVICU (formerly TCV Post Op unit,) yet need more advanced monitoring than an acute-care bed.
TIMU patients include, but are not limited to, fresh lobectomies, patients receiving the thrombolytic TPA, AAA, CABG / Valve and Lung transplants.
Some patients are direct admits from PACU, while other come from the CVICU (formerly TCVICU) unit. TIMU can also accommodate patients on select cardiac drips and art lines.
We are seeking a capable clinician, focused on expanding knowledge and skills. Consistently provides effective direct care, as part of the interdisciplinary team, to a variety of complex patients.
Manages care and implements treatment plans at a refined skill level in collaboration with patients, their families, physicians and other members of the health care team.
Seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice. Assumes a beginning leadership role but seeks mentoring in this process.

Position Compensation Range : $39.90 - $53.00 Hourly
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education : Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
Experience : 1 year of relevant experience.
Licensure : Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending / stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills;
Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift / push / pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood / body fluids and infectious disease.
