Seattle Municipal Court (SMC) is currently in search of a highly motivated individual to fill the position of ITP B : Kubernetes Administrator.

The chosen candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing solutions to leverage a Kubernetes cluster, managing settings and storage, and monitoring and supporting a Kubernetes environment.

Additionally, they will also be responsible for the design, implementation, and operations of technology platforms, managing their assigned applications' availability, integrity, and overall operations to ensure continuity and achieve high performance and availability in collaboration with service providers.

Kubernetes Administration

  • Manage Kubernetes clusters, including building, operating, and reprovisioning.
  • Upgrade and patch Kubernetes, including release upgrades, version upgrades, cluster patching, and rotating kubelet certificates.
  • Develop and maintain automation (Ansible, Shell Scripting, Python / Go).
  • Maintain CI-CD Pipeline for Kubernetes Deployments.
  • Develop and deploy new monitoring checks for Kubernetes services.
  • Manage ingress endpoints & ingress controllers.
  • Manage container networking.
  • Maintain the container infrastructure platform.
  • Enhance delivery systems (DevSecOps) with continuous integration.
  • Improve the monitoring and alert systems.
  • Create and sustain highly available system performance on Kubernetes, Kubernetes Performance monitoring & tuning.
  • Lead internal and external resources in the appropriate utilization of cloud technology platforms.
  • Execute ITSM / ITIL processes to ensure ongoing stable operations and alignment with SLAs.
  • Perform routine maintenance, administering access and security levels.
  • Support new initiatives to provide efficient and stable operations.
  • Provide regular forecasts / capacity planning for local infrastructure.
  • Analyze system data to drive performance improvement.
  • Maintain technical documentation for Kubernetes.

Technical Support

  • Troubleshoot issues and solve problems in assigned technology areas, including Kubernetes, Docker, and integrations.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to identify and explain errors and / or recommend modifications to computer programs.
  • Resolve escalated support issues, referring to vendor / providers when appropriate.
  • Provide status updates to clients and colleagues on technology problem resolution, identifying the nature of the problem, and recommending solutions.
  • Document support processes and procedures.
  • Participate in disaster recovery verification.

Security Administration

  • Support incident response to security breaches or compromises, when serious breaches or other compromises occur, rapid assessment.
  • Work closely with the Information Security team to ensure a safe and secure technology environment and assure trusted service delivery to customer departments and the City of Seattle.

Security vulnerability management and remediation.

Ensure installation and maintenance of server and system security measures. Monitor for indications of security breaches and report security and / or policy violations.

Apply security patches and fixes as needed.

  • Apply standard security practices for IT systems, computer users, profiles, directory structures, and software applications.
  • Develop and implement security remediations in response to audits and security assessments.
  • Kubernetes Logging & Auditing.
  • Apply security patches to container software (Kubernetes & Containered).

Service Provider Collaboration

  • Manage and coordinate service requests with internal and external service providers.
  • Collaborate with internal and external service providers in the execution of escalated support tasks to troubleshoot incidents and resolve problems.
  • Maintain Knowledge Skills and Abilities with Kubernetes dynamic product advancements.

Minimum Requirements

  • 3 years of experience working with container technologies like Kubernetes and Docker.
  • 5 years of DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering or Systems Engineering experience.
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator.
  • Certified Kubernetes Developer.

Education to experience equivalency :

  • Associate's degree 2 years.
  • Bachelor’s degree 4 years.
  • Master's degree 5 years.

You will be prepared to take on this role if you have the following experience and skills :

  • Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist.
  • Microsoft Certified : Azure Fundamentals.
  • AWS Cloud Solutions Associate.
  • Strong expertise in DevOps and CI / CD implementation.
  • Thorough knowledge of cloud-native development.
  • Experience working on open-source projects.
  • Familiar with complex event processing and event-driven architecture.
  • Understanding of microservice design and architectural patterns.

Salary

The full salary range for this position is $50.61 - $75.96 hourly. The final salary determination will be negotiated at the ELT Level upon hire.

Work Environment

This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be required to come into the office a minimum of twice a week.

Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.

  • A job offer is contingent upon successfully passing the court's background check. The background check includes a criminal history background review, fingerprinting, and reference checks.
  • This is a full-time position, working 40-hours per week.
  • This position is exempt from Civil Service and serves at the discretion of the Presiding Judge.
