POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing all medication storage and preparation in the health system or organization.
The Director of Pharmacy ensures that the Pharmacy provides optimal services; meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements;
and complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes and standards of the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Ability to work independently and handle stress appropriately.
- Collaborate with pharmacy staff and all levels of leadership.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of patient’s rights to confidentiality.
- Attends Meetings as needed.
- Able to make critical decisions and respond quickly to emergency issues.
- Communicate effectively orally and written.
- Able to manage a diverse workforce.
- Provide pharmaceutical care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, acute care, psychiatric, oncology, obstetric, rehabilitation, and skilled-nursing patients.
- Directs department on policies, Joint Commission preparedness, Compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Provides oversight and support regarding purchasing, billing adjustments, and invoices to meet departmental budget.
- Conducts ongoing staff meetings and safety huddles as well as attends Quality Council meetings.
- Monitor and addresses in a timely manner all narcotic discrepancies.
- Conducts ongoing staff evaluations, coaches employees on policies and procedures and oversees the staff schedule-coverage issues for proper safe staffing in department.
- Record floor inspections.
- Monitors workload statistics.
- Oversees the Code Cart Committee.
- Responsible for the Pharmacy QI and PI.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by Director.

- Knowledgeable of Pandora and Kronos systems.
- Involves other departments in project planning and implementation.
- Supports others in the Pharmacy department and provides help and assistance when possible.
- Regularly attends and participates in team and / or departmental meetings and activities.
- Keeps others in the department informed of relevant information.
- Regularly offers and requests constructive feedback and coaching.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relations.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / LICENSURE / TECHNICAL / OTHER :
- Education : Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy required, Masters preferred.
- Experience : Min of 3 to 5 years in a management position required. 8 to 10 years of health care system preferred.
- Certification / Licensure : Must be a license Pharmacist with Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.
