Summary :
Performs job functions to deliver product to customers using semi tractor-trailers assist in correctly loading and unloading trailers.
Scheduled time varies due to driving distances.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Check delivery schedule and receive assignment from supervisor.
- Operate Company owned and leased tractors and trailers to facilitate shipping and receiving operations.
- Obey all traffic laws and DOT safety rules.
- Connect and disconnect semi-trailer and hoses properly.
- Back trailers into dock or unloading area as instructed by the customer.
- Unload product to dock or per customers instructions.
- Make customer deliveries safely and on time.
- Perform outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup operations.
- Perform required before, during and after trip inspections and complete required paperwork. Report all deficiencies found to Shipping Clerk and Traffic Manager.
- Complete daily logs, keeping them current and accurate. Turn them in weekly.
- Call in daily to update traffic manager on current status.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Be familiar with and able to interpret packing slips and loading tallies.
- Trained (licensed) in safe operation of above-mentioned equipment where applicable.
- Perform other tasks as directed by traffic manager.
- Must be familiar with and comply with all DOT and Motor Vehicle laws and regulations and Company safety rules and regulations
- Ability to travel. May require overnight stays away from home.
- Ability to follow directions as laid out on daily trip report.
- Familiar with proper loading techniques and procedures for our industry.
- Familiar with common material handling equipment (forklifts, badgers, hand carts).
- Familiar with the filling out of an Electric Log.
Physical Requirements :
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently required to stand; twist; walk and work with tractor.
Regularly using hands to finger, handle, feel; or grip objects, stretch and / or reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
Occasionally being required to crouch and working in cramped or awkward positions, doing repetitive motions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust to focus.
Work Environment :
While performing the duties of this job the employee is potentially exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The employee is exposed to temperatures ranging from moderate to extreme hot / cold depending on the time of year and the location of work being done.
Minimum Requirements :
- High School diploma / GED required
- Valid Class A CDL Drivers License required.
- 2 years of previous over the road driving experience.
- Follow verbal instructions and use simple math.
- Required to read and understand English.
Qualifications :
- Must have complete DOT file on record per company policy.
- Must pass a DOT physical prior to hire and repeat annually.
- Must pass random drug test throughout the year.
- Trained (licensed) in safe operation of above-mentioned equipment where applicable.
- Perform other tasks as directed by traffic manager.
- Excellent eye / hand coordination is essential.
