Position Summary

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care. The Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, family / significant others, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the delivery of healthcare services to patients.

The Registered Nurse assesses the patient’s needs, plans care, and implements and evaluates the medical and nursing regimens in accordance with the hospital and nursing philosophy, policies / procedures, and standards.

He or she demonstrates leadership skills and commitment to professional accountability and growth .

Key Responsibilities :

  • Adhere to hospital Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
  • Utilize the nursing process to meet age-specific patient needs in care, education, safety, and discharge planning.
  • Prioritize and address patient care and unit-based issues appropriately.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Integrate patient rights and nursing ethics into practice.
  • Follow infection control standards and Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Delegate tasks to ancillary staff as per the State Nurse Practice Act.
  • Adhere to the ANA Code of Nursing Ethics & Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice.
  • Support and advance the Magnet model and hospital’s Professional Nursing Practice Model.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement initiatives and complete competency requirements.
  • Attend mandatory in-services and staff meetings as required.
  • Utilize cost containment practices and assume Charge Nurse responsibilities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements :

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing school with current New York RN license / registration.
  • BSN required for RNs hired after 1 / 1 / 18; RNs hired before 1 / 1 / 18 must obtain BSN (or MSN) by 12 / 31 / 21.
  • Knowledge of current nursing, medical, and health trends in patient care.
  • Preferred : One year of acute care nursing experience for non-medical surgical or step-down areas.
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association) required.
  • ACLS certification (American Heart Association) is required for all RNs except NICU and OR. Existing nurses must obtain it by 1 / 1 / 18, Mother / Baby nurses by 1 / 1 / 19, new inexperienced nurses within 12 months, and new experienced nurses within 6 months.
  • PALS certification (American Heart Association) is required for RNs in specific departments. New inexperienced nurses must obtain it within 12 months, and new experienced nurses within 6 months.
  • NRP certification required for RNs in Mother-Baby, Labor & Delivery, and NICU within 6 months of hire.
  • Oncology nurses must have cancer-specific certification or 36 cancer-related continuing education hours every 3 years.
  • Emergency Department RNs must complete de-escalation training within 1 year.
  • Successful completion of Department and Unit Orientation Program.
