Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Please Note : This Director role sits on our District Academics Team and directly supports K-12 math programming using the Eureka and Carnegie math curriculum.
We are looking for a great contributor in the San Antonio or Austin area who can travel across our schools in Manor, Bastrop, and San Antonio, TX.
This role allows flexibility to work from campus 3-4 days per week and the other 1-2 days from home or the network office.
Your Mission
Redefine what’s possible in public education. Your primary responsibility is to ensure that our K-12 math program leads all Compass Rose students to establish a strong foundation as students which sets the table for their long-term academic and personal success.
To this end, you will build teacher and leader capacity while leading the implementation of our K-12 math program, curriculum implementation, and instructional coaching.
You will partner with principals, assistant principals, content leads, & teachers to ensure all Compass Rose schools have thriving math programs.
Your effectiveness in this role will be measured by multiple inputs, with a focus on measurable student outcomes across Compass Rose schools.
You are managed by the Chief Academic Officer.
YOU HAVE
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (required)
- Experience as a highly effective K-12 math teacher, as measured by student achievement (required)
- A track record of effectively coaching K-12 math teachers and school leaders, as measured by student achievement (required)
- Deep knowledge of Eureka Math or Carnegie Math (required, with knowledge of both preferred)
- Experience as a school-based leader (Assistant Principal or Principal) (preferred)
- Experience coaching and developing principals and assistant principals (preferred)
- An advanced degree from an accredited college or university (preferred)
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Competitive salary based upon credentials and experience ranging from $72,000 to $87,000

Your Priorities
- Develop and support our vision for excellent math instruction, including excellent implementation of Eureka in Grades K-5 and Carnegie in Grades 6+.
- Instructional coaching and professional development for teachers and leaders.
- 90%+ of all students in Grades K-12 reach growth goals by the end of the 24-25 school year.
- Continuous improvement of K-12 math programming.
Your Responsibilities
Instructional Coaching and Professional Development
- Share effective instructional strategies with teachers both individually and through in-service workshops.
- Co-teach or visit teachers in schools to model lesson instruction; observe teachers in the classroom as scheduled and / or as requested by principals.
- Work with the principals to create a school-wide focus on student goals for performance achievement.
- Provide opportunities for teachers to obtain appropriate professional development through workshops and courses.
- Assist teachers and school leaders in meeting identified goals for intervention instruction that closes math gaps.
Assessment Development & Data Analysis
- Develop and manage the Network’s math intervention programming and create necessary revisions throughout the year.
- Determine the Network’s criteria for intervention thresholds.
- Ensure assessment fidelity across campuses and lead aligned data cycles that rapidly improve student outcomes.
- Analyze Network math assessment data to help target professional development needs.
- Provide testing support to schools for effective assessment implementation.
Math Program Development
- Collaborate with the Network Academics team and school-based teams to develop program expectations with aligned monitoring systems.
- Develop and implement strategically planned efforts to support the quality implementation of curriculum, professional development, and coaching in Math.
- Intervention : Supports the ongoing development, improvement, and implementation of math initiatives in the agency using relevant research to develop and support recommendations and ensure alignment.
- Math Technical Assistance : Provides timely, accurate, and effective on-demand support for the accurate interpretation and application of Math laws and rules related to curriculum and instruction.
- Resources : Works collaboratively with other teams to ensure alignment with priorities and serves as a resource for stakeholders by providing guidance on best practices for Math education.
Curriculum : Development and Implementation
- Collaborate with the Academics Team to design key instructional planning materials for math teachers (i.e. Year-long plan, planning guides, curriculum maps, scope and sequence documents, Look fors,’ assessments, etc.).
- Serve as an adviser to K-12 math teachers and school leaders in the implementation of Network-adopted math intervention programs, and the evaluation and selection of supplemental teaching materials.
- Stay abreast of developments in math education curriculum and instruction, and provide leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the Network’s instructional program.
- Coordinate, implement, and oversee various other special programs, events, and projects, either related to math education or to other instructional / administrative functions of the Network as assigned.
- Strategically plan with the Student Support Services team to ensure that the diverse instructional needs of students are met in the Network’s program.
- Perform routine administrative / office tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering, and retrieving computer data.
