The Opportunity

In this role you will have the opportunity to :

  • Provides technical and analytical information management solutions through the use of software and databases for domestic or international projects.
  • Functions in a GIS Specialist capacity under general supervision,
  • performs moderately complex aspects of data administration, creation, analysis, reporting, mapping and / or application development.
  • Applies knowledge of GIS and information management principles to prescribed techniques and procedures to complete project assignments.
  • Builds on experience gained as GIS Specialist 1 (or comparable) by either obtaining more depth in specific subject area with the expectation that assignments are larger and more complex, or by gaining experience in more subject areas.

The Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp. has its mission to provide a full range of services to our primary client base - U.

S. Government agencies and departments. With the unique skill sets we have developed during the 100-plus years of service to our U.

S. Government agencies client base, we are able to provide one-of-a-kind solutions to complex mission objectives that arise out of specific challenges faced by and unique to these agencies.

Our primary areas of focus are : Architecture / Engineering (A / E) Services, Defense Program, Design / Build, Classified, and Environmental.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports complex and sensitive planning and programming studies for DoD and Federal clients.
  • Understands and applies military master planning principles, methodologies, and best practices
  • Participates as a team member in master planning, project programming, and charrettes
  • Prepares master planning report content under supervision of lead planners #LI-SS2

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of military master planning principles; two to four years of related work experience;

and have the following :

  • Excellent design, visualization and graphic skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting planning reports and project documents
  • Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well-defined planning problems
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Ability to read, understand, summarize, and apply existing planning documents, studies, and regulations
  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously
  • Ability to create and edit analysis maps and diagrams utilizing GIS, CAD, Illustrator, and / or InDesign) independently or with other staff
  • Eligibility for U.S. government security clearance
  • Ability to interview and record stakeholder input during workshops / charrettes Ability to travel / work at Military installation both in the U.

S. and overseas (valid U.S. Passport required)

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors' degree in Physical, Earth, or Life Science from an accredited university; or equivalent job-related experience.

Typically a minimum of 1 year of experience performing related activities. Good knowledge of GIS applications / development tools as applicable.

Exposure to engineering-related concepts and functions desired.

Certifications

AICP or AICP Candidate is preferred, but not required, for this position, however, eligibility for AICP is required.
