The Opportunity

As a dedicated Accounting Policy and Technical Accounting Senior , you will work on USAA's new products, strategic initiatives and complex issues.

Come join the Accounting Policy and Technical Accounting team and help us figure out the accounting and reporting for these.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations : Charlotte, NC or San Antonio, TX.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do :

  • Assesses USAA's financial activity to determine what accounting policies are needed and assists in efforts to write, update and publish needed accounting policies by following new standards, protocols and governance including updates required to key executives.
  • Conducts accounting and reporting research activities for the USAA companies on complex business transactions serving as an advisor to senior team members and other stakeholders on the analysis of alternatives, and where applicable, execution considerations.
  • Prepares documentation supporting USAA's accounting positions taken on significant or complex transactions
  • Performs accounting and documentation for complex areas of accounting, such as hedge accounting, Variable Interest Entity analysis and contingencies.
  • Participates in special studies and conducts research / analysis of accounting impact of financial and operational issues.

Makes recommendations on courses of action to leadership and other stakeholders as applicable.

  • Gathers data in support of accounting processes and decisions that need to be made regarding new business transactions and strategies, as well as issue resolution and agreement on compliance and accounting standards.
  • Routinely interacts with senior management and makes recommendations to solve current and long-term accounting policy matters.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have :

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 6 years experience in accounting and / or financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform and effectively communicate the results of technical accounting research.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting accounting policies in a financial services environment.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and / or Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).
  • Experience recommending new financial / accounting policies and processes to comply with newly issued accounting standards.

What sets you apart :

  • CPA license
  • Public accounting experience
  • Experience with a financial statement audit, either as an auditor or a client being audited
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse / domestic partner

Compensation : USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive.

You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

The salary range for this position is : $109,130 - $208,580

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
