What Your Job Will Be Like :

We are seeking a R&D Computer Science professional to work on research and development teams addressing some of the nation's most difficult challenges in data science.

On any given day, you may be called on to :

Understand and address existing and emerging threats among a diverse customer set.

Propose and lead data-centric research and development projects.

Conduct research to discover and test innovative methods in data analysis.

Build new understandings and capabilities by using evaluation techniques, critical review, experimentation, and engineering research and development methods.

Engage in program development activities and understand customer's current and future needs.

Analyze existing innovative solutions and develop new solutions.

Produce and disseminate research proposals, reports, or papers.

Perform engineering or research tasks independently and across multi-functional teams.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range : $109,300 - $217,400

$109,300 - $217,400

Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require :

Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a relevant STEM field, plus four (4) years related experience;

or Ph.D. in fields listed above

Experience or training in research and development in one or more of the following areas :

applied statistics

discrete math

machine learning

tinyML

swarm / distributed intelligence

neuromorphic computing

intelligence hierarchies

analytics (e.g. text, behavioral, spatiotemporal, cyber)

Edge analytics (i.e., size, weight, and / or power restricted)

Proficiency in computer programming languages such as :

C / C++

Java

Python

Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test

Qualifications We Desire :

Ability to conduct independent technical projects or scientific research

Experience or training in research and development in one or more of the following areas :

Streaming algorithms

mathematics

statistics

optimization

data science

distributed / parallel computation

modeling and simulation, or other relevant area

Desire and ability to grow technical capabilities, programs, and staff

Ability to perform in a highly collaborative and team-focused environment

Evidence for and a desire to lead in any capacity (technical direction, project leader, program leader, mentor, educator, etc.)

Detailed knowledge of and experience with designing, planning, and implementing research, design, and development projects

Evidence of being a resource in a specific mission space or field listed above

Ability to adapt to different software platforms and languages

Strong communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to develop technical ideas and results and present them in oral and written form

About Our Team :

In Mission Analytics, we identify and collect mission needs, share them with researchers inside and outside the labs, collaborate and invest in research, integrate coherent capabilities, and partner with Sandia programs to transition successful research into mission applications.

Our primary mission is to seek, pursue, and assess adversaries in different kinds of data and spaces. We also provide analytics capability.

Posting Duration :

Security Clearance :

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment / education verifications.

Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship.

SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance.

Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs :

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information :

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
