Surgical Tech Per Diem Days Position Summary
Position prepares operating rooms for surgery, using appropriate techniques. Provides technical services and assists in other areas as assigned and directed.
Position assists in nursing care and preparation of the surgical patient by performance of routine and delegated duties according to the standards and policies of the hospital and department.
Performs scrub duties and related procedures and provides assistance in emergency procedures as well as scheduled and emergency cases.
Call is required for this position - must reside within a 30 minute call time of facility.
SPECIAL SKILLS : Excellent customer service skills and basic computer skills.
THE SURGICAL TECH PER DIEM DAYS CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE / CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.
MINIMUM EDUCATION : High school graduate or equivalent GED for all current employees. Completion of formal ORT program for all new hires.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE : Thorough knowledge and experience in operative procedures, equipment and instrumentation.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE : One year of hospital / surgical background or experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURE : CPR
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS / REGISTRATION : Completion of accredited Operating Room Technology course.

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for aseptic technique, setting up the required equipment, instrumentation and sterile supplies as needed for their assigned cases;
scrubbing and passing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures; pulling cases as needed, breaking down cases at the end of the procedure, sets up operating room and supplies needed for day / following day’s schedule.
Available for call on an assigned scheduled basis as required by unit need. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education :
Required : Graduate of surgical technology program as required by state regulation of practice or policy.
Experience :
Preferred : 1 year experience as a surgical technologist.
Certifications : Required : AHA BLS.
Required : AHA BLS.
Preferred : Surgical Technologist Certification.
Texas : A health care facility may not employ a person to practice surgical technology unless they become certified within 180 days of employment or was employed to practice surgical technology before September 1, 2009.
