Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to implement, direct, coordinate, evaluate and provide leadership in food, as it relates to the construction and remodeling of retail and processing plant facilities.

This position will also implement, direct, coordinate, evaluate and provide leadership to the retail rating / standardization staff and program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university including 30 credit hours in engineering or the biological, environmental or physical sciences.

Experience : Three years of experience supervising a professional staff or as a project supervisor in the General field of work.

  • Candidates may substitute additional experience in engineering, public administration or law as related to environmental health on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • Applicants may substitute registration as an Environmental Sanitarian or as a Professional Engineer for the required education.
  • Applicants may substitute one additional year of experience in engineering, public administration or law related to environmental health for the 30 credit hours of required education.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal / Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources classifications or Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources specialty codes in the Engineering, Natural Resources and Science field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience / knowledge reviewing architectural plans, HACCP plans and processes for retail and manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience / knowledge working collaboratively with state, local and federal agencies, legislators, developers of new food businesses, constituents and stakeholders in the food industry.
  • Experience / knowledge navigating and interpreting state and federal regulations, policies and recommendations.
  • Experience / knowledge in retail food programs, FDA Model Food Code and Maryland cottage food regulations.
  • Experience / knowledge working independently with minimal supervision.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates appointed to positions in these classifications may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.

Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
